Ok well, wow, its over.

What a weekend!

Thursday night before the launch I got an email giving me a password (for the participants) which was followed by another one telling me I didn’t get in, I was a bit unsure so emailed the organiser who fit me in around 10am that Friday.

FRIDAY:

I quickly realised I was very under-prepared, managed to convince a good friend of mine (Ian) to help me with the script/brainstorming on Friday night, we spent quite a few hours wrangling some semblance of a storyline which I typed (very tiredly) up later on that night finishing up around 1:30-2am ish

*NOTE: drunk whilst writing, spelling errors and randomness a must
The first script >>> 33298

SATURDAY:

Ian came around sat again to help me with filming and continued directing efforts, one problem though, our script called for a younger version of the main character for a flashback. We spent some time Friday night and Sat morning wracking our brains for friends with kids who might be able to do it, then out of nowhere my girlfriend txted me with a suggestion to use a drama school, first number for a drama school in auckland came up with 'AYA drama school, I was given my child star's (Joel) number and spoke to his dad Craig who was incredibly supportive and helpful and totally keen to let us do this.

Well fantastic! Ok well it was time to head off and record the death scene, last minute txt from friend Nicky who was keen to be involved. Picked her up and got back home and had Ian come over with his camera and gear, walked over to our set (an awesome waterfall near my house) and spent a few hours killing her..... uhh yeah.

Finished up with that scene and set off to record the dairy scene.

Turned out Joel was a better actor than the main character (me alas) and made our job incredibly easier. After filming the dairy scenes we were on a roll, we thought we were actually going to be able to pull this off! Joel was the best actor to deal with and was an awesome find for such short notice etc. (when I put the video up here you will notice his scene is probably the best in the movie)

Back to our editing location to get what we had done onto computer so we could start our editing, alas after 2 hours of struggling with the computers we found that it just wasn’t going to work there, camera's given to Ian who went home to pull the video off for editing on sun. Early night for all Saturday.

SUNDAY:
Picked up a pocket mirror on the way to Mt Albert, managed to get pretty much everything done in about an hour there, headed back to Ian's to start the editing and finish up the scenes for the 'that morning' part of the film.

EGADS! Once we got there panic mode really set in since we really didn’t have the time we needed to edit it all AND record the extra scenes. So it’s about 4pm Sunday we realise its going to be handed in unfinished... but at least on time!?!?

Ok so we lost about a third of the slightly less important scenes that we wanted to get, then we started getting closer and closer to deadline and found ourselves.... uhh, well getting closer and closer to deadline. We decided that whatever we had at 6:30 we would stop work and put it on tape for submission.
I left at 7:02pm
Hand in time is 7:10pm
Good thing I brought the motorbike for a quick delivery.
Only, half way there I found myself heading quite rapidly towards the rear end of a police car, filtered past him at the lights and trundled on at a very frustrating 56kmph until he put on his lights and sirens and passed me. I RACED onwards once he turned down a side road. I was absolutely caning it especially up the bullet track. Parked outside the place and sprinted (tried to) in only to find that the 300 people outside might slow me down
I found out quite shortly after entering that I was about 3minutes too late
3 MINUTES!

I still handed it in, now I just have to get ready for the cringe-fest on Wednesday as I picked up my tickets and headed home for an early night, got here and started this write up, I'm a fair bit brain-dead atm so please excuse me if I missed parts. I'm sure I have…
Oh point one I missed, in editing, since we only had Joel’s scene with voice parts in it and nothing else, we cut the entire movies audio (also we hadn’t the time to proof-listen to the scenes to ensure our 'CUT' and 'Action' bits were gone and background noise etc.... which... bother... I just reminded myself that means my awesome waterfall audio is gone L
So we cut all the scenes sound and added a random collection of music we had rights to.
Rather disappointing

Looking forward to NEXT YEAR! Will try not to get as distracted on the Sunday morning… even though I thoroughly enjoyed myself I know I should have managed my time better.

yes it was (NOT the GAY one it was followed by shortly)

you think it looked kinda busy in wellington? try something like 300-400 people milling around the entrance to auckland. not that I can blame that, I blame the coppa,

my time management? no.

EDIT:
Its late and I kinda cant be bothered doing anymore than a few secs here and there so uhh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvm17LJQJNw

notes: the squaring on movement effect is just a bug its not in the full version
the sound isnt hacked up badly in the full
I deleted the credits since I didnt want renegade master having my child star's full name

pyrocam

put them up now anyway.

so if you want to have a good-o laugh you can see my weekends shocker of a ""film""

http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=pyrocam

best one would be this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mib_9fxs7Y
which is the 'a tad more edited version'

behind the scenes and 'directors commentary' maybe later

Well done, cool story :-)
I gave you the benefit of the extra time and only looked at the edited version.

I'm also cheering for the Nitro team http://nitro.co.nz/
They are also bike related with links to the Rusty Nuts

Thanks!

yeah I was feeling a bit of of place doing something I couldnt work humour or bikes into the script. next year!

although something about the 48hour film fest made me think. if I can make something like that so easily. If I applied myself to a decent script......

Reviews:

Pyro Fantastics - Fields and Cows (Crime) 3/5
This was apparently filmed on handicams, which would explain the awful sound caused by wind blowing the microphone. However, using handicams didn't limit the cinematography, with some remarkable sophisticated camera work. The story had a bittersweet ending, with a regretful crim and a shoplifting boy.

Fields and Cows (Crime) by PYRO FANTASTICS (Late entry)
A young petty crim has finally gone too far and hurt someone. He thinks back over his short life of juvenile delinquency to the time when he took his first step down the dark path to a life of crime. The film ends with him going back and doing things differently. That’s not how it works in real life, of course, but this is art, so leave it alone. This was another film that suffered from bad sound (wind + camera mic = sore ears) but it didn’t take anything away from the story.
Script: *** Acting: *** Required Elements: ** Production Values: **
Overall Grade: C-
