There's nothing much in Auckland itself, but 20-30kms out of Auckland you've got yourself some good roads & great scenery. Roads I've been on recently include:
North- SH16, Old North Rd to Kaukapakapa, SH16 to Wellsford to Maungawahai Heads, etc
South- Bombay down Ridge Rd to SH22 Tuakau to Ngaruawahia
East- Clevedon to Kawakawa Bay to Miranda, back thru Hunua, etc
West- Piha; Bethells Beach; Murawai, etc
Depends on your riding style and how long you can last the distance. The rides listed above range from 1-3 hours long leaving Ak & back and can be riden at a good pace...:Punk:
Welcome to KB btw Jinx3d!

Anywhere east of Papakura.
Take the Ramarama turn off heading south, turn left and just keep going.
Sooner or later you will come out on the Hunua rd then turn right and keep going again,You should come out somewhere,???or turn left and come back through Papakura via the Hunua gorge.
Come out to Waiuku and head north up to south head,on the way back down turn off to your left at Pollok and take the back way though Waipipi to Waiuku. The Waipipi back Rd is very windy and only 1/1/2 lanes so be carefull.
Also when you get to Awhitu on the way up turn around go back 200meters and take the Rd on your right through to the light house/signal station,If you like twisty Rds with amazing views that Rd will rock.On your way back from the light house take Boiler Gully Rd on your left,This will bring you back out onto the main Rd to Awhitu. The main Waiuku to Awhitu Rd is what I call fast twisty but the back Rds are all VERY tight so be carefull on them.
Enjoy.

Within 2 hours of Auck, you've also got Paparoa to Oakleigh. Auck - Dargaville - Portland. Waipu coast road to Mangawhai. Coromandel loop for a day ride.

Ohhhhhh Waipu Coast Road to Mangawhai, that is a awesome road, just watch the gravel from peoples driveways that have washed onto the road. One downer is all the rich people doing slow speeds on the road

Mostly I'm riding in the hunuas, but the council seems determined to cover the hunua's in loose gravel! SKyhigh road in particular.
Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll give them a try.

the road from oratia to piha is a good ride - mind you - i have a supermoto - and the road is real windy and somewhat bumpy.
nice to fly past the sportsbikes on though...

I'm pretty sure I rather ride a 50 cc 3spd honda step thru, but if you are ever in k rd, be sure and stop at Caluzzi bar to talk to the girls.

dude.
not sure how often you've been to caluzzi - but they're SO not girls.
i used to live in cross st, and if you're new in town - you may get a shock.

Try old nth road thru the riverhead forest, then left onto helensville , then Highway16 to just before getting to kaukaupakaupa turn right by the old white church past the golf club for about12km, then back down Old nth road to Deacon road (turn left) then onto the Riverhead road thru Coatsville then onto the old Albany road. Follow this til Dairy Flat , then take a left by the gas station on to Waitoki , then right then follow this for about 6km then turn right past the Northbridge centre , and out to silverdale. Then either back up east coast bays road, , or old albany highway or go up to Waiwera / Puhoi for coffee./ beer. :msn-wink:
