It's bucketing down in the big Welly at the moment. I've got my gear spread out around my office space slowly dripping onto the carpet.
The gloves are sitting near to the PC drying gently, and I've just wiped down the helmet (careful).
Just wondered if anyone in NZ managed to ride to work in the dry this morning?
I did! but only cos my bikes in the shop and i got a lift  :(
edit: hey pwalo, you arnt the owner of that blue bike near King toyota in the hutt here are you?!

If you have a CRT monitor put the gloves on top of that. Dries them out nicely, and if it drips inside and shorts you'll get a nice LCD replacement.
Stopped raining for the ride in this morning in Auck :nya: , but has been plissing down all night :(

Go to Keinzley Agvet and spend $25 on a pair of over trou and a parka. The hood of the parka folds away into the collar. I got to work this morning dry and got wetter taking my riding gear off than riding to work.
Love riding in the rain.

Yeah I can relate.
Something handy I have found with the RF (and probably works with otyer big, fully faired bikes)... after you get home, plop your sodden gloves in that gap at the top of the forks (where the gaps in the fairing is)
The latent heat from the engine dries them as the motor cools, and it avoids those little leather dye stains on whatever you would have put them on/in front of.
It's also not so harsh to heat them and dry them crispy...

Ha Ha. We took the day off work to ride up to the Cold Duck from Wellington today. Think we'll have another night at home in a dry bed.

The guys from Mythbusters determined that running in the rain causes you to get wetter than walking (due to increased frontal contact with the water). So that means the faster you ride, the wetter the mess. Those LTSA guys got it wrong........:slap:

There methods aer flawed; You have to go faster than the rain falls, then you wont get a drop of rain on you....:nya:

Ah, but your in the rain for a shorter time, the faster you go.. what about that one????
That's the myth they were trying to prove/disprove. They rigged up an indoor course simulating rain and did samples walking vs running, and compared before and after weights of their clothing. The faster you go the more rain drops you hit on your front. When walking it just sprinkles on your head.
That applies to an upright walking position though, so, if you are lying real flat on the bike it would seem that faster would be better.... Therefore, cruisers: slower=drier sportsbikes: faster=drier, superman: well......

Ah, but your in the rain for a shorter time, the faster you go.. what about that one????
Well, if the rate of horizontal rain contact is proportional to speed, and vertical rain contact is constant, then yes, you will get get less wet over the same distance by going faster.
But who around here needs an excuse to go fast?
I got drowned this morning. Even through nylon pants, my crotch is soaked, and my oh-so-comfy skate shoes are reduced to a turgid, sodden mess.

I'm finding Dririder stuff pretty damn good too. I got one of the cheaper jackets and pants.

The main problem I am having is not the rain - it's trying to stay cool inside my spacesuite. :)

I used to do that - it worked very well.
But I got an LCD replacement, without asking for one, and without first blowing up my monitor.
Now where do I dry my gloves? :spudwhat:
(It's actually a trick question - I'm leaving here in a few weeks and I think my new PC has a CRT monitor.)

Yeah I'm pissed off with the rain. Was supposed to be testing a Moto Morini 1200 and the Daytona 675 for KR quick spins the past few days.
You can't make a reasoned assesment in these conditions and definitely not the conditions for lugging the good camera.
Tomorrow maybe.
Nope, not wet enough.

Well, I got to werk dry. Not quite sure how, black clouds on every side, but they ignored me, except for a half hearted attempt on the motorway for about 5 minutes. Der Uberfarter just did his Teutonic sneer and farted. The resultant mushroom cloud expanding outward kept the rain off. So long as I keep going at > 80kph the rain just goes over my head, don't need waterproofs. Of course , if have to *stop* , or slow down - oh shit. Wonder if a cop would accept that excuse.

no work today so took off to palmy and feilding.
was soaked right through by the time i hit the highway, lol. [thermals, jeans, boots and socks. feet were half swimming! ick] top stayed relatively dry, but drying the gear is another thing. my denim vest and leather jacket are both drenched. had to buy a pair of gloves in palmy cos mine were destroyed, got a proper pair of thinsulate kids ones [finally a pair that fit!] from savemart.
not too bad a ride over though, aside from tailgators. theyve strung up that cheese cutter shit on certain corners, which freaked me right out. :gob:
saw about 6 other bikes on the road....one cruiser in palmy and the rest sportsbikes on the open road. cruiser waved....no one else did.
got lost in fielding [whoops!] and massey uni was graduating, so people in cap and gown everywhere in palmy....closed roads etc.
got home feeling like a block of ice, so defrosted in the bath. never been so cold!

Hey, talking about weather, take a look at the cold front coming up from the South tonight!
We might get a beating first but it looks like it might get all of you at some time or other.
There is quite a good covering of snow on the tops here now and they predict more snow to 300meters (That's us) tonight.
Looks like it should be a fairly promising Brass Monkey this year.
T.I.E. Did you buy some good possum/merino thermals? It looks like you are going to need them! :bye: John.

Not impressed with this weather.
No rugby today.
No BMX tomorrow.
Sad children all round.
But my dririder pants still don't leak (third winter now) and the Gaerne boots don't leak either. Two pairs of gloves mean one's always dry and the jackets pretty good too.
Still, with the size of the fairing on the RF, you could ride naked and still be dry if you tucked in begind the fairing.
