I am looking at buying some new boots, I like the look of the long Johny Rebs, but given that I have a Guzzi Griso, might not be the right style of boot, or that practical. I have not gone on a trying on trip aorund any stores as yet. What I am interested in is what other people like, some opininions on what others have found to be a good solid boot(even though it realy is about me and how a boot is on my feet), and is good value for money. Must be water proof, I tend to get out in the wet stuff quite often.

I have the time frame of buying before the end of May as my current boots will not hold up to the task of the ride to the Brass Monkey if the skys open up.

I bought a pair Of Gaerne (sp) Adventure boots for my LC4,when I traded the Aprilia for the Super Duke I can now wear them on the road as my road boots where shagged, very robust boot with proper tread, which helps when you dismount in the wet and don't have to worry about sliding all over the place, they're reasonably water proof.PS how's the Griso,I loved my 97 1100 Sport which I did 43,000k's in just over 3yrs with no problems. I had secured a MGS01 but that's another story (do wish I went through with the deal)

You need a waterproof boot with a oil-resistent sole. Go for something with GoreTex, rather than a Red Band.

If you want something waterproof and comfy, go for StylMartin. I have awful feet - flat and wide(ish) and the StylMartins were comfy from the outset. I've had them 3 or 4 years, wear them nearly every day, and have even crash-tested them. The plastic ankle cups (both sides, unlike most boots) protected my ankle from harm when I wrote my VFR750 off, and the only damage to the boot was a scuff on the toe which some shoe polish fixed. Other features are they are all leather, have an insole which has activated carbon in, so they don't get stinky, reflectors (patches on the heel, and kewl flexible inserts that look black but are reflective), non-slip rubber soles, adjustable velcro fasteners BOTH sides of the boot, padded shin protection, and stiff toes and heel for protection (I think they have plastic cups under the leather).
They're good to walk in, not too hot in summer (because of the leather) and warm in winter (have padded lining).

Oxtar are a nother brand who make waterproof boots. I have Styl Martin City Boots for commuting, and Oxtar TCS Goretex for everything else and they are both waterproof.

What's your size?
I'll see if the Spidi sale has anything that'll suit you.

Thankyou all so far all the info, this sure does give me some info to do some more detailed research on the net prior to going and doing some fittings, rather than trapsing all over town and getting utterly confussed as you do.

As far as the size of my feet Lou, I am a size 8.5 to 9, depends on thickness of socks and so on, and the boot itself, normally going for 9's.

Cool, it sure is bloody wet out there today.

I think Sidi are shite actually. I've had mine for about 9 months and the soles are nearly worn thru and are coming away from the boot. $325 worth of italian shite.

I've got a pair of jandals I bought from the Warehouse 3 and a half years ago for $1.79 that have less wear and tear in them and have seen a lot more action.

i'm with dover - i have a pair of sidi strada tepors and they are 18 month old.
not waterproof at all - sole coming away fron the front of the toe.
i took them back and they glued them - came away in two weeks.
they'll never get another $400 from me.
fucking dagos.

But I would highly recommend the Warehouse range of high quality, hard wearing and exceedingly fashionable $2 jandals.

Not suitable for off road use.

I've got a pair of Technic Defenders and found them good for the water test, slippery road test and wear. Bloody comfortable too. I have flat feet and normally find boots very uncomfortable but technics rock. Didn't even need to break em in too.

Well there are some real interesting comments and thoughts on this one, Jandals could be a good goer, at least they would be quick to dry out. A bit of skin hardening with riding should make me feet as tough as leather uh.

That's because you have not seen the MX Special Edition Jandal - makes simple work of ditch riding.

No, and a few of the textile jkts have gone already.
But there are some kermit green gloves for Quacka riders and rather fetching yellow ones for Spewzooks and R1's.

I've never been impressed with Sidi's. Oxtar seem better made and Stylmartin seem to fit a wider range of people.

I hear Stylmartins are good for the webbed feet commonly found in rural NZ.

Hey I got these coming in this week, all sizes, I know they are not top of the range but they are a good base model boot with extras, ie toe sliders and good hard armour bits
