In the Sideswipe column of the Herald, a reader said he got pinged by a speed camera on the Northern M/way for 91 in an 80 zone. He was about to pay it when he noticed that the location of the camera was in a 100 km/h area north of the Onewa interchnage. The 80 zone starts just past the Onewa southbound on-ramp.
People driving slower to save fuel must be having a serious effect on the revenue stream.

North of Onewa is heading towards Northcote
This is a 80km zone as there has been road works going on in this area for a number of months the speed increases to 100k around Northcote off ramp

Harbour Bridge is south of the Onewa Exchange.
In the temporary zone around the bus station roadworks maybe? But that would be described as further north.

No there is a short stretch of 100 km/h from the end of the zipper barrier thru to about the Esmonde Rd off ramp.

Was there a couple of weeks ago for daughters hip surgery, and the 80km signs were outside the Harbour Bridge Snake Office onward to about Northcote Rd?

The 100kph zone I really like is from the end of the NW motorway till the first 80kph sign just by the entry to westgate.
Anyone trucking straight through from Hobsonville has to do 80, while anyone coming off the motorway can do 100. It seems silly to accelerate to 100 only to slow down - but I'd love to defend that ticket on principle.

Correct, it has been changing for those either blind, going too quick to realise, or just too keen to jump on the sling-off-our-cops band wagon (its just so easy in the bike forums, even if your a small guy you can have a big army). For awhile back then there was a short stint however of 100kmph. Seriously doubt that the camera car was out on a day that it was 100kmph posted, but hey, everybody makes mistakes.
Take care riding home that way too guys, esp. lane splitting.

It seems that some internet users are also quick to reply without knowing the FACTS.
There is a 100 km/h sign outside the Police base northbound and it runs through to just before Esmonde interchange where the main road works are.
So now that the defenders of the faith are appraised of the true situation can we get back to the original post as featured in the Herald.

Well, there certainly was last weekend. I noticed particularly, cos I was being a good lad, holding Petal back to 85 until the sign. Watched it coming up. and cracked the throttle as I went past. Then it came down to 80 again just about where the motorway swings left through Smith's Bush. (going north)

What you mean like you in the SH16 thread wanting the car driver charged with careless driving causing death
You gotta keep your eyes on to know what the hell the speed limit is half the time in that bridge area. Sometimes theres 50kmh signs on the overheads, the normal 80kmh signs on the side of the road and then 30kmh signs at the road works themselves.
I hope the speed camera operator if the sideswipe column was correct, has to write back to everyone who he ticketed, not only obviously withdrawing the ticket but apologising as well.

You mean like the notorious road works enforcement at Waipu a couple of years back? Do you know if apologies were offered and more importantly, did some people get their 28 days off the road back?
