Thats utter rubbish. I've helped a few work mates get their bike licences and they have to go through exactly the same graduated system that anybody else does.

There are police members on this site who had to serve their time on 250s. Old wives tales, methinks.

Come on spud, the games is up now. Admit it, you guys get preferential treatment for everything. Licences in two weeks, immunity from narcotic importation crimes, cheap hookers, special medicine to keep you fit (same as the doc's get themselves, when was the last time your doctor was off sick huh?) and healthy, transmitters to control traffic lights, shit you probably even know who killed JFK and where Hitler is living. 'fess up, we want to know.

Actually, while the CBTA course was available, any over 25 year old could (in theory) get a full licence in two weeks, from never having ridden. Doubtful any did in practice, but possible. Maybe is where the rumour started?

I went from 0 to full license in 2 months using the CBTA course. 2 courses, a month in between plus some LTSA red tape. Then went out and picked up a litre bike.
This is just wrong, but I like it.

Well I heard that there were some cops given exemptions to ride bigger CC bikes specifically so they could ride the "work" hacks on their learners. I've also heard lots of other things that were obviously false, so I reserve judgement on how true this particular rumour is. Which is disappointing, cos I haven't read a decent cop bashing thread in days. Has someone got some facts we can start a good bashing with? There was that loser drink driver who caused that prang up AUckland way that used to be a cop? Can we start on that one??
Regarding the CBTA, I went from start to finish inside 3 months. And that was mainly scheduling and laziness issues (mostly on my part) that meant it took that long. Could be someone who happened to be employed as a cop decided to get his learners on Monday, did the CBTA restricted the next monday, then the CBTA full the following Monday. OMG - hate it when those bastards do what we do. Double standards all right.

i also heard that 63% of stuff you read on the internet is true.
or was it false?
i can't remember.

Police have nothing to do with the issuing or administration of drivers licences, the LTNZ is wholely resposible for this - FACT.
If you believe it to be true then state your sources, allow your reliable information to be tested.

Our computer system allows us to view the details of a persons licence and we can enter alerts against it when a licence is disqualified etc, thats it. Anything else has to go via the LTNZ.

i had a cop tell me that as well but it was back in the acc and mot days and they got the licence after an intensive course for 2 weeks or so , so the training was about 80 hours ,it was reflected in some of their riding especially the nazi chick cop who fell off a few times

That's partly true. Training was two days a week for 3 months. Including "high speed" road riding with those instructors that weren't sticklers for the limits, some off-road stuff and track days at Manfield.
But the standard was far higher than any civvie had to meet. And m/way cops had to be better still.
Although I still don't know how a guy called "Autumn Leaves" got through.
Or the guy that thought riding home on his patrol bike after his shift wearing a Nazi helmet was not going to get his arse reamed.
