View Full Version : Tyre Poll - What should I get?
My Brutale came with Supercorser Pro's and one day I might even be able to see what they are like in the dry, however they are wild in the wet and I need to change them for now.
I use this bike as my daily commute and on weekend rides so I need an all rounder.
What say you?

Corsa, or Michelin Pilot Road, or even Metzler M3.

I've heard good things about pilot powers but never used them myself. I use Metzler Sportec (are they M1s?) and they seem to do the business for the commute and weekend. They overheat at the track though.

Very true...but we dont use Avons..in the wet Continentals are great (typical Germans), in the dry Pirelli's are king...dragon corsa's were my favourite...which are now the Diablos....
Or you could get some hand cut slicks...they are fun, but a tadge slippery when cold.

My Avon Viper Sport's are fantastic in the wet, better even than the Bridgestone's I had that were more obviously a Sport Touring tyre.

Steer well clear of the fuckin Pirelli Diablos. They made my sphincter palpitate like an epileptics pupil in the wet. The front was just horrible.
Pilot Powers or BT-014s if you want sportier road tyres, otherwise for commuting I'd get a sports touring tyre to get a little more wear. You don't need the stickier sports tyres cos you ride like a poof.

My work commute is only 3.5 k's so I'm not worried about wear. I want a sticky tyre that's reasonble in the wet.
And Dover... a bad workman blames his tools.

I had the pirelli's on my bike before the Vipers and they were better in the wet than the vipers, infact if I covered them in silicone and vaseline I'm sure they would still be better than the vipers in the wet.
I would still go Pilot Powers.

Yes i have actually. I had the vipers on my o4 blade. They were fantastic in the dry and complete crap in the wet. I had numerous slides on them.

Metz Z6, Pilot Road, Diablos or Metz M3. All will suit you well. They're all designed for a quick warm up at low speed.
Track day tyres are not the best for a wet commute unless you want to ride like it's a motard.

Were they the Sport or the Sport Extreme? The Sports have been superb in the shit weather we've been having lately down here.
Pilot powers sucked in the wet. They never got warm at all and skated like you were on marbles if you so much as touched road markings or man hole covers.

And Dover... a bad workman blames his tools.
So why the chickenstrips on the 'blade then?
I didn't blame any tools, I still passed you when I knew I was riding like shit. Nothing to do with the bike, my workmanship was clearly not up to scratch.

Conver to a skinny 18" at the back and run an Avon SM (speedmaster not S&M) and a 19" ridded avon up front (no, not for extra pleasure...)

Hmmm haven't heard of the sports extreme?... must have been the sports I was running. I was well impressed by them in the dry but even crossing damp patches on the road I had a couple of 2 wheeled slides. I had them on my blade when I low sided it in Coromandel on a damp bit of road.
I had the Pirelli Diablo rear before that with a Diablo Corsa front and I felt they were better in the wet than the Avon, but not as good in the dry.
I have never tried pilot powers but they will definitely be my next choice of tyre.

Why am I a smart arse? I was comparing my experience with riding on Avon Vipers and Pirelli Diablo's.
I just said that Pilot Powers will be my next choice.

On second thoughts finn, fit a set of slicks. Like, wow, have you SEEN how fast Rossi is on those?

I also hear good reports of Pilot Powers, in riding on Diablo Corsa's and to be honest they are a bit nasty in the wet but hang on very well when dry.

It would be nice to know how and when they ride first.
What's great on a dry country road may not be so great on diesel covered tar snakes on a freezing wet morning.

True that may be but I use my gixxer for the daily commute in every weather and they are still bloody good tyres. The BT-014s were probably a bit better round town when it was real shitty but not much difference.

Good point Lou, and even the difference between the wet open road and in the city.....
I'd run wif the powers, 'cause Loosebruce reckons they're good and he's by far the fastest wet weather rider I've ridden with.....
My own experience the older AV49's are fucken brilliant in the rain, I could pull wheelies even when pissing down....and of course the 218's were pretty good too.

True, LB does push them to the limit. And a guy at work did the 300 km race on Powers including the wet laps and he said they were the mutts nuts.
