Levin police believe they have put the brakes on a freeloading "easy-rider" who has bilked service stations out of more than $3000 in petrol.

Sergeant Brian Yanko said the man, who was pulled over in a routine check on State Highway 57 near Levin about 11.50pm on Sunday, at first confessed to a single instance of driving off from a service station without paying for petrol, but under closer questioning he allegedly owned up to between 50 and 60 drive-offs throughout the North Island, averaging $50-$80 at a time. "We come down pretty heavily on this sort of thing," said Sgt Yanko. "There has been a real spate of this type of offence here - but perhaps we have just cut it back by half at one blow." A 24-year-old Levin man will appear in Levin District Court to answer the charges on May 18.

Perhaps he should be demoted from "Sargeant Yanko" to "Private Yanker" for the disservice he is doing motorcyclists!

Maybe it was a Trike rider....
cos they have huge beer barrels as a gas tank on some of them...
Now that would hold that amount of gas....

He might have only admited to half the drive offs @ $25 each time. Either way, stealing is shit.

After a minute or two of me getting angry with him for stealing petrol, i asked him if he paid, he said no and that they didnt have his new address so we would be fun...

so then i get really angry..

only for him to explain that he had paid by eftpos at the pump!!!

It sounds like he used a car all the time. So why call him a biker?

But really, Sgt YANKO?:killingme :killingme :killingme

Why do you lot assume he was a biker? I don't see anything in that article implying that the guy was a motorcyclist?

I assume the reference to an " "easy-rider" ". 'Easy rider' usually implies a bike.

Was he on a bike when he got busted?

YANKO is a somewhat unfortuneate name.

Most of the cops in Levin are pricks, so he was prolly just exaggerating the facts slightly.

but there are alot of dodgy people in Levin...

Yes I've had dealings with her (work purposes of course). Had a giggle over that one back at the station we did.

Not too shabby...is she still working??

Who's going to introduce Const Bacon to Const Dorking?
I want to see the kids with hyphenated names from that union.
They could slaughter their parents and get off scot free.

i will agree with most cops in levin are f$%^#its but some are very good towards us motorbike riders like letting ya ride around for the day on a 750 two up on restricted and after getting caught speeding so there are some good ones :innocent:
