VMCC Round 1

RG100!! Race Report.

Well. Where do I start?!!
Ummm how about

The Trip There

I stayed at Ivan’s house the night before the racing in Featherston!! ( ‘P’ town of NZ  ) while I was there we mucked around with the bikes putting numbers on….me giving him shit about been a ginger and so on. We had the bikes loaded up on Saturday afternoon so we had a bit of time to waste….. Nothing better that to play MotoGP4 on the PS2 eh?? !! I didn’t sleep all that well that night, but it did not surprise me at all…. I was SO anxious to get out on the track!! We had to be up at 5:00am on Sunday to head off….. Which didn’t bother me as I was already awake(ish) . ARGH! The two and a half hour drive to the track was more than I could handle!! It just seemed that we were never going to get to that track!!!. I guess it was because I was so excited huh.

Hmmm the line was a tad bigger than what we have buckets  !! I was expecting that we would get it done in a few short minutes but NOO it to me a WHOLE 15 mins … :whocares: I think it seemed worse because I was still buzzing out on the fact that I was actually going to be racing!!

Practice

Well that was fun… The track isn’t as scary as I ever anticipated .It looks sooo big when you are looking down on it from the grand stand. I felt good going around and around. I thought I was a the next aaron slight until Vtec passed me…. Never mind. I didn’t have any one else pass me for the session but that doesn’t mean much, its only a practice. It is a lot bumpier than I thought it would be for a race track. But the bumps didn’t seem to put me off so bad. The Bloody lime on turn one was a little scary at first but I got used to it pretty quick. At the end of the practice the only corner I was still having trouble on was the sweeper. For the life of me I couldn’t get a good line through it no matter how hard I tried. I gave up and spent more time getting better at other corners instead, which seemed to work. Coming back in I catch up with Vtec again, man can get the CBR going around the track!!!. It took a while for the qualifying times to come out, but when they did man was I stoked!! I got 4th on the poll With a 1:38.1 lap. Great!! The day before the racing I said to myself I want to do at least a 1:35 . I felt I could do it.

Race One

I show my inexperience by mucking around trying to find my position…. Oopps..Never mind. The guy went around checking all out helmet straps and so on. Then up comes the green flag. I was so nervous that as soon as it came up I opened the throttle and held wide open until the flag dropped. WOOSH !! away I went with a hiss and a roar!! It would have to be one of the best starts that I have ever had!!!! I looked over to see that Vtec had the same wicked start as me. Bugger. ah well
I passed a few 125 guys off the line, but they all pushed me wide at turn one. I was determined to stay with Vtec, but it was not going to happen. He is quick and so is his bike. I pushed it as hard as I could at the beginning of the race. I really wanted to get into the 1:35s lap times. I was alone the whole race which I didn’t mind as it gave me time to put some quick laps in. I looked over my shoulder at one point to see a pack of other bikes about 2 seconds behind me. I knew I wasn’t going to catch up with Vtec, so I just stayed at the reasonable pace just in front of the guys behind me. Why go faster than what you need to right?? I for once got a good exit off the sweeper onto the front straight. It was the last lap, so I went for it. I wanted to test my self. I now know I can go a lot faster than my fastest lap in that race, as the fastest lap was the last lap that I went for it on, and I did not get one slide the whole race. And I could see a few places that I was stuffing up on, like the sweeper. I managed second place with a 1:33.1 lap STOKED!! Nearly two seconds faster than I aimed!! Third place was Neil Chappell.

Race two

Frecking rain. Never mind, if I want the points I have to race. I now knew were I was supposed to be on the grid. The start worked well in the last race so I tried to replicate that start. Full throttle!!! This on wasn’t as good though as the wheel spun on the white paint strips then lofted the front wheel up as it re-gripped which meant I had to back of the throttle. Hehe, I some how got into first place in the streetstock which I was pleased about. Then a RG150 comes around the outside of me riding like it was still dry!!! I find out later that it’s Neil Chappell. He tells me he likes riding in the rain. Go Figure…. I keep at it trying to be smooth as possible without been a nana. Steven Scullion passes me. I’m in third I can live with that. Then Vtec passes me. Nope I’m not going to have this! Every lap after he got pass me I would catch him up in the infield, then he would pass me down the middle straight. EVERY LAP. Cheeky bugger was waving as he passed me too! I tried my hardest to get him on the last lap, but the poor ol’ RG150 just don’t the grunt and drive out of the corners. I managed 4th place. Can’t complain really. But I would like to have got at least third.
The last race was rained off. So I got a THIRD place overall!
Not to bad for my first time out methinks.

Pack up

We packed up and buggered off pretty smartly. As it was pissing down. I went back to Ivan’s house and decided to stay the night and head back to kapiti in the morning as it was still pissing down and I was sore as hell.

I would like to THANK
The Juggins Crew for sponsoring me my bike.
My brothers Business “Quick Installs, for all your Carpet and joinery needs” for sponsoring my entry fee.
And to all the other KBers that came and had a chat, you know whos ya are.

He just says that he leans untill he feels it slide. when that happens, he knows not to lean any further.
Seems to work for him, so i wont question it.

I don't know. I Came to race... to win.

Ivan has the more relaxed approach......... He comes to be consistent. And it seems to work. He did get third out of 7 people in the end!! But the people he beat had only done 1 or two races before, so no excuse really.

Yeah, I rushed back to the pits, and of course you can never find zip-ties when you need them. Then a nice guy came along and gave us 2 so my Dad tied the stand up. Get back to the dummy grid and the last few guys were finishing the warm up lap. I waved my arms around but they started the race anyway

Ah well, didn't crash this time. That's a victory in itself

maybe we sghould all set up a pit next round. Get there early to get the covered ones eh?

Good idea. Might be handy if the weather was like last time

I'm in for that. yep the covered one was great - thanks Racey, I would have been wet through other wise.

Again this rises the point descused in the team KB thread. but having a group of guys racing together, would spark intrest in sponsership. I've come up with a few idea which i might float around at some stage.
but if we all pit together then the pool of resources expands ie:

i have the following gear that i would be happy to share with fellow KBs as long as it returns.

Compressor + air tools
tyre leavers
torque wrench
standard tools+scockets
timing lights + TDC tools + fly wheel pulers (good for two strokers)
access to a geny + cords
BBQ (i given up on losing weight, go the snags)
sleage hammer (god sometimes you want it!!!)
and box's of nuts and bolts.. (always with me, seem to forget to tighten things).

food for thought.

Coyote
18th May 2006, 20:00
I've only got basic tools, but do have a rather flash tyre pressure gauge worth about 70 bucks. Works damn well, but is very fragile (as my Dad found out with our last one)
