Unsafe changing of lanes - $150
exceeded 100 kmh spped limit by 34kph - $300
Unlicensed vehicle - $200

Watch out for a red Mazda 6 on the highway one by the bombay hills.

Before anybody jumps on my back - I happily except that these fines are my responsibility and will pay them accordingly.

Bloody good ride to RotoVegas and back tho'.....

I think it was the lane split - He said he'd been trying to catch me for some time and questioned whether I was "doing a runner". I told him I hadn't seen him and that I didn't even know "they" drove mazda's.

The cop was alright but he kept on the side of the motorway for about 15 minutes while he wrote out the ticket. :Police:

I think I saw that car sitting at the top of the bombays with lights flashing (pointing south) on saturday.
Gave me a bit of a fright (had just driven from wellington to auckland).
Ill have to keep my eye open :/

Hah! What, exactly, was he expecting in reply to that?

"Yes, officer, I noticed you ages ago, and was doing my best to escape your clutches in the most illegal manner possible, but gee whiz whillikey, you just handled that Mazda like an absolute pro. I decided that I could not sustain the frightening pace of the chase, since I am not only a criminal fugitive, but a nancy-boy into the bargain."

hah, spotting jrandom. Yes, was driving the gf's '85 accord hatch :/...well...i guess it's more comfortable than the bike heh (the ZR250 is quite a comfy bike for a 250! nice squishy seat, fairly upright position). Not like my big squishy VR4 though :(

I thought you had only had the TLR a short time so did its rego expire or was there some hassle with the guys you bought it from?

Interesting that comment - in the countless times I have done the Wellington AUckland run in both cars and bikes (I can't even count how many times) - the trip is infinitely less tiring on a bike than in a car?

I find the trip seems quicker on a bike (yes accounting for relative speeds) and less taxing? metephorically and literally (ie petrol)

Merv - You win "most observant user" prize of the day. :)
When I bought the bike (Haldanes), They put on a WOF for six months and I thought they were going to do the REG as well as it only had about 2 weeks left. Well I was wrong and I neglected to check. So I'm hoping that if I get it done and write a nice letter explaining my lack of intelligence the powers that be will let me off.

That sucks…I think the number of HP has increased by 3x within 6 months…..and they seem to drive almost everything and anything…. :brick: specially u simply can’t speed if you want a nice ride without worrying, even in 100km zone. Did u have any radar detector??......they almost seem mandatory now…a fine like that and im finished…as I probably have $50 bucks in my back account!!..

Yeah hopefully you'll get off that part of your loss of rent money, but I presume you will have a wee chat to Haldanes about it too because that sounds a bit rough on their part - not really customer focussed.

I did have a chat with Richard at Haldanes and he said that the only "legal" requirement is WOF for six months....

Oh well - In the end I'm responsible for my ride so all blame rests squarely on my shoulders. I look at it like this ... The number of times I've broken the law and got away with it, out weighs the times I've been caught. :niceone:

Yeah, just found this on the LTSA site.

If you’re selling a vehicle...
Ensure the vehicle has (a) a Warrant of Fitness that is not more than one month old when the buyer takes possession, (b) a current motor vehicle licence, and (c) a current RUC licence if the vehicle is subject to Road User Charges

know how you feel, Man it sucks getting tickets.

I'm still positive that more of those are caused by cagers than by the bikers themselves. But the bikers end up worse so have to pay more. Isn't that adding insult to injury.... literally.

I have had a couple of big fines too.

What can I say, Dude, my comiserations.

My brother paid his $500 fine in coins, the biggest coin being a 50 cent peice. took 1/2 hour to count it. Apparently they have to re-count it all at the end of the day too!

Car sales man pissed me off once so I paid him the last $50 in 5c peices. I took them out of their bags and put them in a bigger bag and took 1 out.
He pig headedly counted it three times. Just as he tipped it out over his desk a fourth time I said here have another and tossed him the remaining coin. :killingme:

Write a nice letter with a copy of your newly purchased rego and explain the situation, if your driving/criminal record is good, and you aint young you could get out of it.( Spud?? )

Yes it is. Don't like it? Change the law... not so easy - but not impossible.

I wrote a submission on the last ACC levy increase - the options were to load up motorcycle levies alone, or an accross the board increase onto fuel prices, thus costing everyone on the road....I chose the latter naturally.

Been on two protest rides tp parliament now. First one had more effect back in 91-92? A minister that rode a bike at Uni got behind and supported our cause. I recall the LTSA wanted to increase rego's to about $1500 per year.

This has become almost an Urban Legend. My sister in-law works at the parking warden office for ChCh city council, so I asked her about that. She said they only have to accept $5 in silver and not a cent more. She wasn't sure about $1 & $2 coins but most people who try that do it in 5 and 10 cent pieces. They actually have the cut out from the legislation to show people when they try it on. I just spoke to her and the last guy who tried it had $200 in 5 cent pieces.

If other councils/agencies take more than the $5 then they either don't care or don't know about it.

Not sure how a private company would deal with this but I imagine the big ones (phone/power/insurance) would of put limits in place already.

Yeah I saw you. I was the 972nd bike from the front, red Harley if that helps. What a turn out!! I wrote letters to the Editor and Police the next day about the total absence of the usual crowd control that every other 2 bit protest gets. Remember a rider got hurt when a car tried to force its way across the bike flow. We won.
