Goddammit :-(
Some douchebag in a people mover decided to turn out of a line of traffic right into me as I was heading across town tonight. No idea what state my bikes in as I pretty much didnt move from hitting the road till when they loaded me into the ambo. Thankfully and somewhat amazingly I'm still in one piece.. My ankle/foot hurt like buggery, but dont appear to be broken (gotta have more xrays in a week when less swelling, but looking good). Just very badly bruised/sprained/scraped . I managed to leave my shoe a fair way down the road before I came to a rest, and my foot kept hitting the road so I'm missing some nice big chunks of skin..
After I got home I rang the cops to find out where my bike was etc, and the watchhouse guy I spoke to put me on hold for ages to find out , and when he came back he seemed to think that It was a single vehicle accident and no other car was involved, so now I'm stressed out to the max and need to wait to talk to the cop who attended tomorrow. God I hope the guy in the watchhouse misunderstood.
On a totally unrelated note, I now understand why people take nitrous oxide recreationally.. That shit doesnt stop the pain, but you just dont CARE about it anymore lol.
Anyways thats my tale of woe for the evening.

So if the cops think yours was a single-vehicle accident, presumably then the driver of the offending bus didn't stick around until the emergency services arrived?

That's the fuckin truth man. When I binned and tore my arm open the ambo wouldn't give me morphine but gave me a free run on the NOS. Everything still hurt like fuck but I was too busy talking shit and laughing to care.
Now NOS and weed..............:killingme :killingme :killingme

Get better soon mate!
Either "they are all out to get us" or the drongos "haven't got a f*cking clue how to drive". I'm going for the second option!
The bike will be somewhere safe. If ambos arrived then surely the public servants in blue arrived (shortly after the donut shop closed for the night) to tidy up the details.
Take it easy in the meantime.

Bike is at a salvage company, cops had it taken away. Hope its not too bad.
Got to ring my insurance co and get them to go look at it, ring the cop when he starts his shift, and try and go have a look at the bike myself ideally as well (go go crutches hobble!)

hey Lias.
Glad to see you're still with us.
the easier you take it in recovery - the shorter it will be.
get well bud.

So I take it that you've had no visits or messages of concern from the wankers that caused it?
Maybe you should start checking out your legal rights and consider sueing the pricks. That way you can upgrade your PC to the highest gaming spec, since you call yourself a geek.
Get Well dude.

Glad you're ok overall mate, sounds like the wounds will heal which is the main thing. Re the bike, I'm sure the coppa has it sorted. If it was a hit and run I hope he/she gets nailed to the wall.

I was just saying to the missus before I wish we were in yankeeland so I could sue them for discomfort and all that sorta thing :-)
Got a ride down to the salvage yard before, bikes not TOOO bad, brake pedal and footpeg & mount are totally munted, been bent right around pararllel with the bike. Handle bar end is bent, but forks seem to be straight. Headlight and speedo are smashed totally now (as opposed to just comsetic damage before), mirror smashed, most of the chrome on the right hand side is scratched. Pipes have big gouges in them..
Just got handed the camera so will put some photos up. The one thing I'm super-dooper happy about is all the black bumper shit scraped down the side of the bike, cops cant say I crashed on my own now!

Ouch, that's gotta hurt someone's insurance company. Now get to the real pics - where's the ankle and missing flesh??!!
Can you elevate your ankle onto the desk and put the keyboard on your lap? A man can only be expected to survive without p**n/games/forums for so long before it becomes cruel and unusual punishment.
Important thing is any accident you walk (loose interpretation of the word here) away from is a good one. All the best for the recovery.

What a barstard! If you tweaked your ankle, it could take a while to come right - mine's still giving me shit 7 months on....

I'm just a bit worried they will write it, because its alot of comsetic damage.. I really want it fixed up because its gonna take me ages to find another bike I like that I can afford. Ankle and most of the foot is covered in compression bandage stuff atm.. might get pics later when it comes off :-)

Got it propped up on a pillow on top of my sub under the desk and its not too bad.. And yep anything you can walk, hop, or crawl away from is alot better than one you cant. I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself everytime I jar my ankle, (as you do) but I've been thanking my lucky stars I didnt do a 2smoker or stonechucker or worse.
Oh and as for that tank road rash, if you look you can see where the dent was from last month that I was supposed to be getting pulled out in the next week or so. Also another dent further down the tank as well without the rash (leg into tank is my guess). Damn glad I put off getting the other cosmetic stuff looked at till after the tank job was done.

Really sorry to hear about the accident dude, hope you make a full speedy recovery and hopefully it all goes smoothly with sorting out yer bike.
I fucking hate those people mover things, the fucking things are so huge you can't see properly out of them, we had one for our family and got rid of it quickly as you can't see shit around you.
Woohoo! Just spoke to the cop who attended, and he said the other driver did stop and there were witnesses etc and the other driver did admit to turning in front of me.
So thats a huge load off my mind. I feel like drinking a few beers but given I'm on prednizone, antibiotics, codeine and voltaren it probably wouldnt be the best idea.. Still I'll be having a few once I'm off the pills :-)
Took some photos of my foot too, will post some stage later tonight :-)

16th May 2006, 15:20
Good to hear about the other driver. Now you can RELAX and get better.:woohoo:
You're right - the beer won't mix well with the prednisone and voltaren - not good for the stomach. As for the anti-biotics, don't drink booze if they are flagyl. Others are ok (imho).
That sucks man. Hope it all works out, main thing is you aint dead, hope the dude that hit ya develops a wicked bad case of GALLOPING KNOB ROT, looses his wife to a fat bald guy, then finds out his kids aren't really his, but just to add insult to injury, the fifteen year old girl he thaught was his, is pregnant to a fourty year old unemployed street sweaper, with no teeth and a wooden leg.

Hmm... That's sounds annoyingly familiar!
Bad luck about the accident, although by the sounds of it the end result was a lucky one. Apart from a swollen/sprained ankle (I hope that is all it is), bruising/scrapes and possibly a bruised wallet, you couldn't ask for much better.
I hope that you get the accident details sorted out at the station, and that you heal up quick and get back out there.

Bad news bout being skittled, but good news that the other fellow has admitted liability. Make sure your insurance company has a copy of the cop's report asap and your worries about your bike at least should be over. When you up and riding again let me know...about time the Waikato saw some more group rides!

Strewth! You a hard man, Fizz! Seriously, Lias, glad you're okay, sort of! Gives us all pause to think - coulda been any one of us here, even if we don't live in Hamilton...! Sounds like the other driver realised he was in the wrong and has a conscience. We can all make mistakes - a door pillar or mirror can conceal a truck and the outside mirror is unreliable at seeing someone coming up beside you. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt meantime. Doesn't make it hurt less though! All the best at gettin better and gettin the bike repaired.:soon:

I was going along a main road, in the opposite direction to them.. They turned right out of a line of stationary traffic into my right foot. See attached MS Paint artwork.. I'm the arrow, they are the red vehicle turning into the side st.
Also attached foot pictures for the morbid minded ones :-)

Man, there is no excude for the dude that caused THAT crash!!
I thought initially you had come up from behind him and he pulled-out on front of you but to have you approach towards him and he STILL pulled out?

Yeah the bastard must be blind as a bat.. They didnt pull out in front of me thou, they pulled out into the side of me.. As best as we can tell teh first point of impact was my foot on the brake lever (thats where the impact damage is, and explains why my foot is fux0red) then the bike and I slid along his bumper, then went rolling down the road.
