Ok, as most people would forget to do, I have never got a set of spares cut for my bike. Now the bloody thing is starting to fail in that it takes an age of wiggling and manipulation to get the bike to ON from either LOCK or OFF and this is becoming tiresome.

Now as this is an original Honda Key it has the barrel number printed on it which should enable me to go to a key maker of the knowledgable type they shoud be able to cut me a new correct key. not the worn out one I have, but would this help or could the wear on the barrell need looking at as well!?

So who in Auckland/Shore can do this? AMPS? or any of the bike stores?

Or would some crc down the key hole help?

i need to do the same thing. someone has tried to steal my bike in a previous life by the looks of things.
but bikes only have the 1 key (most of the time) which is the ignition barrell.
maybe its easier to buy a new one that comes with a key/s. ie: replace the whole thing?

Any capable locksmith can do it,but there are some who specialise in auto.I've gone through several, they just don't seem to stay in business long, look in the yellow pages. They can cut a new key,and sometimes pull the barrel apart and fit new waffers. If you take the barrel off yourself you'll save his labour to remove it.

yeah skint at the mo so was hoping for a location of somone who could cut me one to the barrell number, a ten dollar job which might solve the problem for a while.

Had this done for my car last week... new key looked nothing like the old one. Two keys, remove broken key from ignition (thanks wife), and call out fee came to $80 thanks very much :)

So yeah, take the key in, and the number from the bottom of the barrel, and you'll be sweet :)

I went to Armstrong Locksmiths a couple of years ago and they did mine for about $25 with 2 keys. I had to remove the lock barrel for them to work on at that price though. Check Yellow Pages for nearest branch, WD40 should help also

So all will have the required info to remake a key for a BIKE from the barrel num, last time I went to get a bike key done they struggeled to find a appropriate key for my bike, let alone the paticulars required to cut a key from a number.

I believe only Mr Honda has the special abilities to make keys according to a barrel number.

Had one made for my SRX250 from the barrel number only over 12 years ago after the one in the barrel disappeared whilst riding :)

,look in the yellow pages..

Did your near miss affect your comprehension? I thought you wanted to save money? So DON'T go to the Honda shop, look in the yellow pages for a locksmith who does auto work. You should see some of the wierd crap I give them,I don't think a bike is that special - oh,'cept for your's maybe....

I have just gone through my cards, and see a couple I have kept,so must of been happy with their service...

On recommendation from Cyclespot

Armstrong Locksmiths - Next to the mobile top of Barrys point road.
20 bucks and two minutes done, and as I suspected the new key works fine.

bit late now but yeh, that guy at armstrong really knows his stuff. For the ZXR i had him cut a key to a barrel for the ignition and also one for the tank. He cut the key for the ignition, put it in to check and it fucked the barrel so he rebuilt it and threw in an extra key to boot :gob: well pleasesed, that that was $80 all up for both.

The R6 ignition is getting a bit ratty, i've found that a cheap short term solution is to put a drop or two of oil on the top of the ignition and put the key and twist it round, usually keeps it smooth for a few weeks.
