Just did first good run, from a mates place out to piha, then the back roads up to Albany, and back through to town. Bike handled great, but he seemed to pull away from me on the straights a little to easily. He's got the Hysuong gt250r where he's had the limiting cable cut, and he's getting a new (unbaffled) exhaust on it tomorrow. What in the world can i do to my suzuki gsx250 to give it a bit more pace, i only got up to about 160, where he was up to 170, and he has been faster... :shifty:
Not sure if it's worth too much expence, but it was good cause I did have it over him in the corners. :ride:
Any thoughts... and yes of course Hi all I'm a newbe

Wlecome along to KB.
Firstly, I know the GSX is horrbly lean from new, that's why you've got to run the bastards for so long on the choke when they're cold. Raising the needles a notch or going up a size in main and pilot jets will help. It could probably do with a little higher gearing too, say, down two teeth on the rear sprocket. I remeber the one I ran in (whoops!) running out of revs at about 160.
But in all honesty, you're probably flogging an old, wheezy horse. Might be best untill you're off your "L"s and move up to a 400-650.

160 is whay is expected from a gsx250 if you are lite weight same with a gt250r.
gt250 will be a bit quicker though i am told. You could get a two into one but from a shop the system is gonna cost you 800 and up

yep, think i'll just have to stick with it till can upgrade, the 800 for a new exhaust would be better spent on better leathers, or towards the prob 650 that i'll upgrade to, when i'm allowed.
And most of the way we were travvelling well under 100, having the fun round the corners etc. But these bloody things with 4 wheels kept getting in the way sometimes

Now you're thinking! Sounds like you ought to save a few $$ for speeding tickets too.

anyways yeah just get sprokets and/or leather with soem extra money for brewskies and lots of food :D
Not worth doing much to a gsx250 or a 250.As you will pay a lot! for not a lot of change

Funny you say that about losing weight, i've dropped down to 90kg, and still going. The easiest thing that i've been told is to take the center stand off it to drop the overall weight down afew more kg's. Don't think i'll spend anything other then whats needed on it, that way i'll have more cash for the gas, and beers on trips i'm yet to have on it.

What part of Auckland do you live in?

I'm out in east Auckland. Where you have to watch every car not like its going to hit you, but how it'll hit you and come back and run you over while wondering why a speed bump has appeared in the middle of the road (oh but thats everywhere anyway)

This isn't a bad thing to do, not so much for weight but more for ground clearance. Though the sparks are kinda cool if you leave it on.

Do a track day or 20

just wait til you can upgrade

yeh not to much point modding. It's all about corner speed not straight line speed. Dveus is fecking quick on his cause he can hold the speed through the corners (even if it is pinging off the limited hahaha)
If you wanna be faster than your mate. Put the money towards good tyres and practice holding corner speed

Yip, anyone can go fast in a straight line, but it takes skill to corner quickly...:)

I've still got my centre stand, but ditched the sidestand.. it gets in the way on low left lean angles..

another question: The new 2007 Kwaka GPX 250 is arriving in NZ in August.. would the Hyosung GT250R still be a better option.. the GPX is a inline twin..

I'd prefer the twin. (kawa power!)
Isnt it funny how everyone missus the point of the orginal question.
"how can I make a gsxr250 faster" is not "SHOULD I".

simple: re-jet, new air filter and exhaust.
the bandit (gsf250) has a standared top speed of 160, mine does over 180 :)
