I've had my learners for ages but have only just started riding. I want to get onto my restricted as soon as possible but don't have the confidence or skills so far to do the test so I'm thnking of doing some sort of course.
Does anyone know of a good riding instructor and course in or around wellington?

Hiya,
I did Roadsafe's learn to ride/basic skills course recently and that was pretty good. Probably a bit too basic for you, but I know they do an intermediate course. That might be more what you're looking for - Andrew said if we were interested to come back after we'd done about 1000 kms. Andrew's very approachable, just give them a call.
Stevens (spelling) Driving school also does the basic handling cert. Dunno if they do any other courses.
HAve fun!

Dude I could learn some stuff from Andrew's basic handling skills course. The more good habits you learn and practice the better. There is NOTHING lost by doing a course.
yeah i got my learners from andrew and lynne...fantastic best in nz would recomend. they said the do courses for pre-restricted and full licenses so give them a call

Hey where do they do the roadsafe course? I was under the impression that they were in Porirua. It kinda makes it pointless as i'm in the Hutt.
whys that neats? they do all sorts of courses from beginner to advanced - im looking at doing one myself, and a track day.
also i believe they do it in upper hutt (or someone else does) sorta behind and back a bit from the pool

Lol, broken bones are healing!
I'm fine for a bike. Just decided I didn't need the heap of shit and brought a bike with lots of plastic (haven't riden it yet :) I am glad that i didn't fall off that one.
Training always helps. Was supposed to go over to roadsafe but since i rode around no worries i didn't get there.
I fell off in Whangarei because i was going too fast.

Sounds like roadsafe is the best around then. I did my learn to ride through them but was wondering what there is out there as far as an intermediate course goes.
Thanks all for your comments.

You do get experience from riding. As with everything you have to walk before you can run. Be progressive in your riding. Start of riding roads that you know, either by having walked them or driven them in a car and then as you get more confidence start to expand the areas that you ride to include roads you don't know (applying the same lessons you've already learned). You become a better rider by experience, courses are good but experience will go a long way towards reinforcing those skills learned.
Last time I did a course with andrew, the theory was in J'ville and the practice was in upper hutt(ish).
Call him, tell him you are lacking a bit of confidence and he will help you :-)

So Andrew, is this your new log in?
Just kidding. but it did sound like an advert, but I know it's not him.
I’ve passed by a couple of courses he was doing in the hutt so he has a few venues & time options. In a past life I have done a bit of instructing & some styles don’t suit everyone, but those who don’t want to learn or think they are beyond it get little from it.
Be prepared to be a student to learn anything, if you see what I mean. Andrew is still teaching me heaps when we go out on the Trials bikes.

Hi Neats,
I did my course with Andrew at Petone. Apparently he also runs one in Wellington CBD. Andrew also supplies bikes so If you don't want to ride there, just organise it with Andrew. You can then get the train there and use one of his bikes.
I can recommend Andrew. Knows his stuff and is very patient with his students.

I did my Basic Handling Skills through Roadsafe at the Dessmart carpark in Tawa and my Restricted in Johnsonville(theory) and Upper Hutt(practical). Thoroughly recommend it.
