Do you really think the graphics are going to be that good?
If so your kidding yourself, because, once again, its a ps2 :eyepoke:
What they do is bring out pictures like that which make the graphics look better than they are so you buy it and then get disappointed. :stupid:
But I could be wrong.

As much as i hate consoles GT4 did look pretty good and this is built by the same people on what would have to be the same engine. Plus there is in game footage on the link i posted and it looks ok.
was playing my "backed up" copy of Tourist Trophy last night for the first time.
its pretty hardout... good fun tho :)

yup, sure is.
apart from not having many other bikes on the track at the same time, its a great game.

Is the AI of the opponent riders any good? In other words if you are in front of them will they brake to avoid you, or just drive straight into you as if you weren't there (a la Moto GP 3 on Xbox) hence causing a ridiculous amount of crashes?

Okay I've been playing my ntsc copy on my modded ps2. It plays fine on my Pal Lcd tv, as my modchip auto forces it to play Pal.
I've been an avid sim gamer for 20 odd years and have played just about every sim out there......most aren't even worthy of being called sims.
Its an awesome game, and easily the best ever Motorcycle game on a console.
Takes a little while to get used to the physics, if you pitch it in too quick you can lose it big time. Also when getting on the power too suddenly the back end can light up out of corners.
You can jump straight in and drive just about any bike from scooters, 250's, 400's right up to 1200cc Buells and gixxer thous etc in Arcade mode. Race 1 on 1 against the computer or Battle against a friend in 2 player. Or race with up to 3 other bikes.
Or you can do Tourist Trophy mode where you must work your way through and earn new bikes/gear along the way in various ways:
Challenge mode - allows you to race a similar bike around a track and win it if you beat the opposition. You can pick the challenges yourself, so you get the bike you want.
Licence mode- you must sit and pass various challenges to progress.
The more you race it the better and more intuitive it becomes, there are 3 modes for controlling the bikes. Some of the higher modes allow seperate front/rear braking for really backing the bikes into turns.
Also your riding style can be altered to suit different bikes or tracks. A motard style is also available so you can try some foot out action on a Sportbike.....looks ridiculous :)
A cool feature is the ability to save pics from replays/races etc out to a standard USB drive.
See below for some pics I did the other night riding some different bikes.
If you like bikes this game is definately for you. The gameplay is awesome, it takes a while to become truly good (just like real bikes), and the graphics are top notch for ps2.

Could be a good training tool, apparently Sonys GT4 tester did quite well when he hit the racetrack for the first time.

ive done the 250cc/750cc and 1000cc class races at the beginning, now its becoming VERY hard :(
challenging for bikes to do some of the other races is very hard now.

Guys, I've been an avid gamer for years, sim racing especially. I've raced online for several teams including kiwiracing.co.nz.
All I can say is that if you're a biker and have a PS2....book your copy now from gpstore.co.nz for release June 2nd!
I'm hoping that when the PS3 will bring out more of this game and hopefully on the success of this title will spawn one where they bring out updates with the latest bikes / helmets online ALA Project Gotham racing 3 with xbox360 live.

Hmmm. the menu system seems a bit slap dash, but those onboard cams are insane :gob:
The MT-01 sounds like a weedeater, WTF.
The NSR250 Owns everything, which is good and they descraibe the MC21 as being motorcycling prefection, which is also true :nya:
License test only improves your skill if you aim for gold though.
No kawasaki H1/H2 which is HORSESHIT. The RG500 feels like a pussycat and wont wheelie.
Bikes look awesome, but you dont pay for them, you take a challenge and earn it. Which seems far less gratifying. GT4 system would have been more fun.
It's almost as if this game was a bit rushed to the market, but its still realistic enough and it IS the best motorcycling game yet (I have motoGP4).
I'm gonna go play some more and see if it Improves

I know what you mean, lots of fun though locking up the back and sliding into the nearest fence. I hate Laguna Seca corkscrew though, always falling off there. BASTARDS!
Though scooters are farking funny to ride, its hard to do challenges when you are pissing yourself so much.

You spliff smoking hippies, as far as I can tell, the game looks like its been developed by bunch of students that got told they can work on GT5 if they make this work.
The rider flops around like a big floppy donkey dick on the bike, and brakes feel crappy as fark.
Basically, it feels like they took GT4 graphics, and GT1 game physics. But with a bike shape in the place of a cage - but I still cant do powerslides..
Sheet negro, I need a fuckin foot massage.
Mr. Peanut
4th June 2006, 17:37
I have my reservations too, but I can powerslide :)
The sounds are a bit shite, nowhere near as much music as GT4, some bikes cant wheelie regardless of power, i.e. RG500??? MT-01 sounds like a weedeater... I dont like the extensive use of GT4 material either.
The bike modeling looks awesome though. I don't like the menu system.
Still a good antidote for bike withdrawal symptoms
still a good game and great step towards the future :)

The brakes feel fine, physics can be a little strange at times but overall are the best of any bike sim i've ever played, and I've played them all :)
If you can't do powerslides then somethings wrong....they spin up easily out of corners.
Also if you get it right you can back the bikes in beautifully.
Yes its basically GT4 to look at, but the physics are far more advanced as can be seen by the lack of bikes you can have on the track at once.....not enough power in the PS2 to handle the massive physics calcs of more than 3-4 bikes.
The next version of GT4/TT etc is called GTHD and will include both cars and bikes in a 1080i(hires) version for the PS3.
Sniper
5th June 2006, 09:03
Game feels great to me, better control and gameplay than GT3. Powerslides are easy, so are highsides, although you dont fly off the bike instead you fall gracefully and the bike carries on. Must admit that Im still getting used to (and cringe) the fact your rider can collect stationary objects with his head and that causes big accidents.
Just got the MV F4 last night....

yea, weird about the MV... dunno whats up there!
as for mods... you can change the tyres from street to performance but nothing else. maybe that comes further down the track?

No other mods can be done. Basically susp, gearing, exhaust, tires thats it. A bit like real life for most people I reckon....not everyone will get into doing full on engine mods.
Personally too many mods make it a bit "Fast & the Furious" ie: gay gay gay.

Yo man, any time. You got my number? PM me.
I hired it out today and borrowed the neighbour's PS2.
The physics disappoint me.
I think I'm not going to be satisfied until they make a motorcycle game where the motorcycles handle like bikes. Tourist Trophy seems pretty much the same as MotoGP2 in the basic way the bikes respond and move - flopping around about the tyre contact patch and requiring you to push the joystick over and hold it depending on how far you want the bike to lean. It's closer to driving a car than riding a bike.
Other complaints are I couldn't figure out how to make the bikes wheelie, do burnouts or do stoppies... :o

Ride a sports bike like a cbr 600/1000 and you ll do wehllies stoppies powerslides etc no prob
Burnouts are not possible but you can drag the front wheel for smoke :)
Noobs rubbish the physics but they're pretty spot on once you play properly.

It would seem wheelies and stoppies are possible. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8537425269561037117&q=tourist+trophy)

I tried a cbr600rr in one of the licence tests and a gsxr1000 on a track in arcade mode. Neither of them wheelied or stoppied. Obviously I'm doing something wrong game wise, but with either bike, jamming on the front brake would send you over the handlebars in real life. Similarly, wacking the throttle open on the gsxr1000 in 1st should have lifted the front wheel a bit at least.
The cornering physics might work well for a game once you learn to play it, but they're far from an accurate simulation of how a real bike handles.
On a real bike you apply pressure to the bars to turn them left, the front wheel starts to track left and the bike leans to the right, and you adjust the pressure on the bars so that the bike balances in the turn - this balancing only requires a small amount of pressure on the bars. Towards the end of the turn, you apply pressure to turn the bars right, the front wheel tracks more to the right and the bike stands up and you release the pressure on the bars.
If it were an accurate simulation, the joystick would have to take the place of the bars and the bike would have to respond similarly.
If the handlebars on a real bike made it respond like the bikes in Tourist Trophy and MotoGP2, then to turn right, you would turn the bars to the right and hold them at a fixed position applying a constant pressure. This would make the bike turn right and at the same time lean over to the right. Throughout the turn you would have to maintain the pressure on the bars to keep turning and leaning. If you wanted to lean further and turn sharper, you'd turn the bars further right and hold them there with even more force. At the end of the turn, you could release the bars and the bike would pop upright and go in a straight line.
The above description is not how real bikes respond, it's far more like a car responds (minus the leaning) than a bike.

you haven't noticed the main problem? the game is built by the same people that made GT4.. meaning a whole bunch of cagers are gonna play this, and get pissed off if they can't "hold left to go left", they don't want realism.. stupid stupid cagers

I believe EB (electronic botique) has a 14 day return period.
I just noticed yesterday that the rider's right hand moves with throttle, - cool.

Indeed, it's patently obvious. Shift your weight forwards to stoppie, shift it back. Just like in real life. Duh.
If you still can't get the front end up, you never will. Trade that playstation in for something more suitable for your skillset, like snakes and ladders.

You're both assuming right stick means turn handlebars right. Right stick simply means turn the bike right. If you choose Lean In or Motard as your riding style, you will see right stick will also shift the riders bum off the seat and (in motard) stick the leg out...Or is that not good enough for you? Do you need a 'move my bum' button and a 'stick my leg out' stick as well?

Its an easy game to pick up, it has the best physics so far in a motorcycle game. They will never be perfect though, how can they market a game with absolutely perfect physics but a real bitch to control. Most of the Playstation generation don't know how to ride bikes so would have no idea how to counter steer to get the bike on its side???? Its made accessible for a reason, but its still a great game and easily the best on the market.
Did you have it set to pro in the game settings ERIK? if you didn't then thats why it wouldnt wheelie. You use the left stick for leaning left/right and moving bodyweight fore and aft. Just pull back on the left stick and forward (accelerate) on the right stick for a wheelie....most bikes in the game will wheelie fine, some require a stoppie first then pull back. Some are just plain underpowered (as in real life).
As Mr Peanut said, most newbies are quick to dis the physics as they take a bit of getting used to........this ain't no ridge racer. Learn the controls, ride a while to get used to them, then your opinion will change.

Jesus Erik, talk about hen picking. The game is a damn sight better than GP3 (Havent played GP4) You can wheelie just about any of the bikes plus stoppie any of them. You cannot wheelie in the license tests.
Its a damn good game and for the first of its type (not including GP's) they did a farking good job of it
After some more testing I've found out that having the Failure Conditions turned on seems to stop you from being able to shift your weight forwards and backwards.
With failure conditions off, it's easy to wheelie and stoppie. It doesn't seem to matter if you have manual or automatic transmission or pro or standard control setup.
I wouldn't have persevered and found that out if SimJen hadn't specifically said the left stick should make you lean forward and back, so cheers.
I don't think that a game with physics that I'm talking about would be more difficult to play. I think if you made the left joystick control the pressure on the bars rather than the bar/steering position you wouldn't need to push the joystick in the opposite direction to where you want to go. Controlling it would be different, but I think people would get used to it.

Cool Erik, I've never altered that setting, mine has always been off.
Possibly your idea could work, but remember the majority of people who would buy the game are probably kids, and they wouldn't know the difference.....either way :)
Having said that, this is the first bike game I've seen that has had such a big hit on all the motorcycle forums I frequent. Must be a good thing.....
The Polyphony boss has always liked bikes, but thought a game like this wouldn't sell. Obviously after the success of the GT series he thought he could take the risk. I think its paid off, but only sales will dictate wether we get updated versions etc. I can't wait for TT2/3/4.....

The failure condtions thing is a pain. I like racing with the stricter rules but not being able to do wheelies kinda ruins it.
Has anyone managed to get all gold's in any of the license tests? I'm stuck on a couple and want to know if you unlock bikes or just more riding gear by getting all golds.

Unfotunatly they wont. Same reason they didnt bring GT series on any other platform......... Secret under the table payeouts from Sony..... :gob:
I bought TT tonight. I've already got pretty much every road racing game on PS2. You guys played Riding Spirits 2?
First up, its too similiar to GT4 (which I was kinda disappointed with). Bear in mind that so far I've played for about 20 minutes in Arcade mode. Only 4 in a race? That sucks, rolling starts? ditto, whats with the ghost image when restarting after a crash? ditto. I set the option to Pro rider and to "lean off" option and wheelies seemed pretty easy, however you cant seem to lean the bike over far enough or climb off the bike enough.
Personally at this stage it seems a bit over rated, the graphics are OK, but I think I prefer MotoGP4 for being able to drift, slide, stoppie and race a decent size field. TT Superbikes also offers a better racing feel to it, I think Riding Spirits 2 offers more opportunity to "tune and modify" the bikes.
Maybe it will improve with further play, but I think I might be expecting too much from the game.

Go through the licence tests and you skill will go up. Get used to using the lean in button. Youll enjoy this game when you get better at it.

if you like SH22, you simply need to do Nurburgring North Loop on your favourite bike. I just did with the blue/white busa.......the replay is amusing to watch, especially the tankslap at 302kph which threw me off. They should have added the options for 'fatality' there.....sort of giving you more responsibility not to fall off too hard.
Anyways......how do I powerslide (if possible at all)?
P.S.
Damn polyphony makes a bike game without ZX7, RC45 and RC51.....I mean, what the he..?

i would guess it would be the same on most games.. lock up the back, then accelerate while holding the front brake (after letting go of the rear)
Mr. Peanut
12th June 2006, 06:36
As you lean into the corner, shift the weight forward while still turning (press the crouch button as well if you wanna get real wide :D)and give it some gas. The busa lights em up real well...
If you wanna get real tricky, do a stoppie and land on a slight angle, then give it some gas:devil2:
Turning the brake control to pro (non linked) also helps and makes the game a shit load more rewarding. Takes a bit of getting used to though.,
Marmoot
12th June 2006, 10:11
ah....that explains. I'm not on pro yet.
A tips for the players, instead of using the buttons, use the right analog stick for gas + brake. Damn more realistic and cuts your lap times if you use it well.

Dont likes:
the frickin 10second pens when ever you go off the track or bump another rider.
It wont do stunts (not even a power mono) like the other games! It wont hit the limiter over jumps either...
I've only had it for a couple of days... does it get better? If it dont I would recomend NOT buyin it
Tip:
Race with a manual box... the auto is not aggressive enough and you need the box as a kind of wieght shift forward/back and use seperate front/rear break controls so you can back the bike in if you go in too hot.

I've got the NTSC version and was very disappointed at the acceleration of the bikes (litre bikes taking... can't remember but it's a lot longer than they should and thats with quick ratios) and it's also almost as if the bikes all have traction control with no apparent way of turning it off. Only way to highside is under braking.
I seriously think it takes about 6 seconds to get to 100 (yes KPH not MPH) on a litre race bike.
So is the PAL release the same?
