When a man calls you a "bitch" or "bitchy" how do you as a woman interpret that? Do you find it flattering or uplifting or demeaning and derrogatory?

Men use that word like it was a punctuation at the end of a sentence. I find it derrogatory and demeaning to women.

I for one HATE that word and I despise any man who uses that word to describe a woman as that.

"Man" well any guy that uses that word to describe a woman/lady with that word, to me, is not a man all. Most men respect their women and treat them like a lady, but the few pea brained men who obviously have not reached puberty (even at 40) do use that word to describe their girlfriends or wives have no clue as to how demeaning that is to a woman. Some women out there like being called that, but I am curious to know just how many woman truly like being called a bitch.

So, how do you as a woman. interpret it? Just a question.

It's gotta be better than 'ho.

As long as women tolerate these terms they'll continue to be used.

I don't really mind bitch. I refer to myself as a bitch often, my husband says I'm a stink bitch whenever I won't give him what he wants :stupid: and my parents used to call me a little bitch all the time. Can think of a lot worse things to be called, like the C word that I really take offence to!! If you ain't got one, you don't have the right to use the word!

Hmm... Are you secretly american?

If i am actually being a bitch, then i probably deserve to be called that.

Its the same as any name the describes bad behavior,, bastard, geek, retard, shit head, arsehole, etc etc.. whats the difference?

There are some women who let labeled bitch unfairly if they are being simply assertive, however there are a lot more women who rightly deserve the title, and some guys to..

Ontario Canada? Great place, where abouts Ottowa?

Anyhow I think the whole "bitch" and "ho" thing as all too US gangsta really. It is degrading to women. Personally I am pretty thick skinned and tolerate all sorts of crap. I admit I have used the term when BSing with other blokes (as you know blokes talk utter crap when together), but would never call a woman "bitch" or "my bitch" to her face.

In NZ a more common term is wahine. (Maori for female)

"Bitch" is just a word, like any others. It is how it is used that is the issue, rather than the word itself. If it is used intentially to hurt or diminish the person at whom it is directed, then I have a problem with that.

There are plenty of appropriate places for the word 'bitch'. eg. "I'm Rick James, bitch.". Just like there are plenty of appropriate places for 'nigger'.
"Fuck your couch, nigger! Fuck your couch!".

Bitch - female dog. Calling someone a bitch suggests that you view them as such, whether in jest or not. It's still derogatory.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. These men & woman that
call someone a bitch don't realise they are using an acronym

It is a compliment Brownbabe because it means......

B - Babe
I - In
T- Total
C - Control of
H - Herself

As woth most words - there are a huge number of ways it can be interepreted... affected largely by the circumstances at the time if nothing else.

In general I'd view it as derogatory and can only think of "you lucky bitch" as an example where I might use it, as an emphasis, to a friend I know, if she got lucky in any reasonably substantial way.

Ok, here is a question, I would never call a woman a "bitch" but I would yell that out when something untoward happens to me (as long as it is not caused by a woman). of course I would say, "fuck" or "shit" more often but that "bitch" does sometimes replace it. Now, would you find that offensive? (that I'm using "bitch" as a common swear word?)

Ha, I use it jokingly with the wife. Normally get told to 'get fucked' with her middle finger raised! It's all a piss take, we respect each other. But we are also comfortable enough with each other to give each other a bit of shit from time to time. Fuck in the 4yrs we've been together (married 1) we've only argued once, and the bitch was wrong anyway!!!

.................................................. .......... nah - that's the 'comic' answer .. not appropriate if it was a serious question, sorry

........if it WAS a serious question then i can't recall it happening but, if it did i think i'd probably take it in the manner it was intended and let that guide my response

Thank you for that applaudible response, I woke this morning and was very happy to see that the women that responded all said they find the word demeaning in some manner or other, but yes, I agree the "C" word when used as a weapon toward a woman is even worse and may cause the woman to do something that might end a man's life.

So listen up all you men on this forum, listen to what the women are saying here, treat your woman with respect and don't talk about your woman like she was a trash can infront of other men's girlfriends/wives or you will get an ear full. My neighbour was doing just that yesterday infront of the whole neighbourhood while the poor woman was in the house down the street and that made me pose this question here. I let him have it and my hubby let him have it he went home to cry or something, I hope he doesn't beat that poor woman too, so then I came here to vent.

I don't usually like to get into threads, which aren’t about bikes, but this morning I did have a look at this one. While I don't agree with the word bi-ch being incredibly offensive (unless used as an insult or in anger), I do agree that men should never disrespect their lady (wife) in public or not.

Wow, calm down already. I treat my wife with the upmost respect, and I think you'll find most here do the same with their partners. So lay off the generalisations ok. And for every male that demeans his wife, either publically or in private there is a female who likes to do just the same.

Ah, what do I know. I'm just a male.

We had a maori guy working for us, the darkest skin maori you ever seen. His nic name was niga. everyone calls him niga, his wife calls him niga, he calls himself niga.
If you call out his real name he doesn't even look around.
Now he is a big bastard and if you don't know him, quite intimidating, despite actually being one of the most amiable people out (unless riled).
Funniest thing is watching people come to grips with calling a black man niga. Most can't do it, some after half an hour of trying to call him by his real name give up and call him niga.
Is this a lack of respect. Hell no, one of the most respected people on site. He is a carpenter and everyone goes to him for help when they have a construction related problem, myself as the foreman would never hesitate to ask his advice.

My point is, it is all a frame of reference.
Too many people judge others by their standards and their education and their beliefs.
No one can or should judge you OAB unless they walk a mile in your shoes.

O h goodie...

Someone else telling me what to do.... Jeeze, join the labour Party, they are looking for a replacement for helen...

Look, if some looser dumps on his lady, he deserves to be lonely not hung up - it's hardly a capital crime! People do much worse things everyday (like speeding and stuff) If she is daft enough to put up with it, I'll bet he has an endless supply of it. Face it, there has NEVER been an easier time for her to just walk away!

Don't turn rudeness and stupidity into a gender issue 'cos it isn't. Its not soley a male preserve, there are plenty of women that exploit men as well as the otherway round so. People behaving badly towards each other is the root cause of half the rotten things that happen in the world.

I personally think that woman down the street will have to get out of that relationship before something really bad does happen that they will regret for the rest of there lives.
It’s getting real bad when it affects a neighbourhood.
