Elderly rider oblivious to street fight in his wake

An elderly man riding on his mobility scooter was oblivious that fear for his welfare sparked a street scuffle in Paraparaumu resulting in six arrests.
Acting Detective Sergeant Ross McKay said a bizarre string of events was set off by two boys, aged 12 and 14, drinking outside a Kapiti Rd flat and harassing the scooter rider as he passed on Tuesday afternoon.
One of the boys removed the man's walking stick from his basket and dropped it on the ground and the other boy picked it up and put it back.
Mr McKay said the man – who later described the boys as "cheeky" – rode away unperturbed.
But three women driving past, who saw the incident and recognised the man on the scooter, decided to reprimand the boys.
Two of the women, aged in their 20s, got out of the car and told the boys off for hassling an older man, demanded they apologise and confiscated a bottle of alcohol.
The boys verbally abused them and one boy reported the incident to other partygoers, Mr McKay said. One of his older brothers, who was drunk, kicked the women's car and hurled abuse at them. Then three young drunk women from the party joined the fray, punching one woman in the face and slamming the open car door against the other.
A middle-aged man saw the commotion and rushed to defend the women. He grabbed the older brother, which prompted three other male partygoers to attack him. All three went crashing through a nearby fence.
About 20 police and ambulance officers arrived at the same time as one of the young women believed to have been involved in the attack punched a young man because she believed he had stolen her cigarettes, Mr McKay said.
All the while the elderly man continued on his way, unaware of the bedlam in his wake.
One of the women who reprimanded the boys suffered bruising, the other mouth injuries. The man who came to their rescue needed stitches for cuts on his head.
Three men, aged 21, 20 and 18, and three women aged 25, 18 and 16, will appear in Porirua District Court and Youth Court on assault charges next week.

Ah yes, they all sound like lifes winners don't they?
Sentence them all to get a job and earn an income instead of drinking their Tuesaday afternoons away.
And the 12 and 14 year old drinking booze in a 'supervised' environment?? -Yeah right!

Hahahaha that is very funny...
Good old Pram my home town.
it was probably people that i know and used to be friends with - but we will keep that quiet
I quite enjoy our elderly counterparts so if i saw it i woulda gone to his "rescue".
And i also enjoy 20 something year old ladies fighting so i woulda gone and watched them.
And i also enjoy a good brawl (I partake in the semi-organised brawl that is rugby every saturday.) so i woulda gone and cracked some skulls.
Good to see that Pram isnt falling apart without me though...

Y'know, the subject of this thread is more than a little worrying to me, especially as I grow older.
I have always been more than able to protect myself and mine but as age has crept silently upon me I now realise that that is no longer the case.
It's a bit of a worry too sometimes as I am liable to react like the "old guy" in the above case and get a hiding like he did too I expect.
Age must give way to youth, I have no problem with that but now as the older generation I have to ask what sort of job did we make of shaping the next generation? (Like the young ones in question in the above case.)
We must have been almost total failures as parents when you read about their behaviour in that article.
Holy shit where did we go so wrong?
I will say with some measure of pride, that my own kids do not fit into the mould of the kids above.
I worry about our grand kids but I guess our grandparents did the same.
Perhaps I should just focus on how many more years of motorcycling I can squeeze out of life and just let the young ones get on with their lives.
It's not just riding the bike, the roads, other traffic and the hoodlums that get in your way though, there is auntie Helen, Cullen (The Tax Dr) and the bloody Arabs making it tough as well.
I didn't mention the Cops because the areshole ones go in with Helen and the good ones don't seem to bother me.
Oh well, ramble ramble ramble, just another sign of old age I spose.
Hey you do look good in those leathers Faye. Does this mean I'm not dead yet! :killingme Cheers John.

There have always been little tossers - and often they come from the best of homes - who will pick on those who are different to them, whether the bullied person is older, paler, darker, skinnier, fatter, male, female, etc. I have no time for people like that, nor do I have time for those who are rude and impatient with those people. I was in the supermarket once, fuming because I'd got in a queue that was going slower than all the others - until I saw WHY it was going slower. At the head of the queue was an old guy on a mobility scooter, being served by a girl aged about 16. She was SO patient with him I immediately felt guilty - she counted his change back into his hand and then walked around and packed his groceries into his bag for him. I complimented her on her actions when I was served and said that when I got to his age, I hope I found someone like her.
I wish you could still clip a little sod around the ears and know it would have some effect. Nowadays you're likely to get charged with assault and then they'd find out where you lived and start picking on you!

Talking about random street fights.. I saw a bit of a scuffle on Saturday morning on Commerce St in Hamilton (furthur up the street from Frankton Market #31 Commerce to be precise). A guy (looked P.I. or Maori approx 30ish) was riding his pushbike on the footpath (which you're not apparantly supposed to do), and there was a kid (14ish Maori, and I guess his older sister 17-19), and the guy on the pushbike rode straight into the kid, fell off onto the ground (the kid also fell), then the guy got up and started shouting at the kid "when there is a bike on the footpath, you're supposed to get out the f**king way", he then proceeded to punch the kid (while his sister was screaming "no, don't hurt him", the kid then backed into the street, pulled his phone from his pocket, dialed the cops (i guess), and shouted at the pushbike guy "i'm gonna sue you, you c*nt".. anyway, the guy got back on his pushbike and went off quickly..
..was quite an interesting watch.. and then i carried on delivering mail..
