Been a member for awhile, but only got my first bike yesterday :D
Its an FXR150 and its sex on wheels! only paid a grand for it too so pretty stoked about that.
Might i add that i dont actually know how to ride it yet.....yes i know, who buys a bike they dont actually know how to ride?? but ive been meaning to learn, just havent had a bike to learn on.
So i get my brother to show me how to ride it today, luckily theres alot of grass where i live. Didnt do too badly, managed to drop the bike twice on the grass(once with me on it haha) im glad i didnt get a 250 or it would have hurt! Managed to get into 3rd gear but am not really confident enuff to go faster than about 30kms lol
Anyone got any tips for a learner? Im figuring if i stick at it long enough eventually ill be abit more confident. Bike just seems so heavy and im s#@t scared im gonna crash into something and do myself (and even worse the bike) some damage :(

My first tip would be try riding on the road not the grass.

Thanks for the link :) Yeah, we do have a 200m tarsealed driveway so I go faster on that than i do on the grass it has abit of loose metal on it tho lol. I just feel more comfortable knowing if i fall off on grass im not gonna munt my bike. Fingers crossed i get the hang of it sooner rather than later, ive been told im not really the motorbike type quite stubborn tho and wont give up easily :D

My brother saw it parked outside this dudes house. The owner needed the money for rent :s felt kinda stink only paying that much for it. WOF but no reg :) its in pretty good condition, 20000kms on the clock. Guess it was a lucky find.

here's a good tip.. GO DO YOUR BASIC HANDLING SKILLS.. don't ride on grass.. that's just a bad idea (says the DX-mail person that rides on grass and footpaths)..
*Edit: ..and welcome to the site :)

That's a great price.
I love the fxr, though I wish it would go a little faster, but it was quite a handful when I first got it.
Go get your licence and get some decent riding gear, it's nice to have padding when you fall onto sealed road.
I can't believe you're riding on grass, I found my fxr really difficult to control even just on gravel.
be easy on the clutch until you get used to it, I wasn't and was puttling wheelies, which I didn't intend off every light for a while, until I fell backwards off the bike (it was actually quite funny), sufficient to say, I've never pulled an accidental wheelie since than.
oh and....
HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :first:

LOL thanks for the advice, dont you have to kinda know how to ride a bike before you do your basic handling though?

I also did my bht without previous experience. All I had was a bit of blast around on my friend's 50cc scooter, some I know didn't even have that when they did the bht

gt244 - Welcome :scooter:
Find a empty carpark and practise there or go to a industrial area like in the weekend when no one is around and practise there as well.
Have fun learning to ride and take care out there on the roads.:scooter:
Tis time to change the place where its states "None" and add in what bike you now own...

Its an FXR150 and its sex on wheels! :(
No ... it's masturbation on wheels. Not quite big enough for two people but a hell of a lot of fun by yourself.
I had an FXR until last March and they are pretty good to learn on. Take your time and remember that while the road may seem hard, at least it doesn't move under your wheels like gravel and dirt surfaces do.

i had been ridding for awhile before i got my licence and i actually learnt a lil bit from the guys at pass right when i did the basic handling course.
there were people on the couse who had never touched a bike before the instructors took them aside and spent some good time with them and made sure they had gotten the hang of ridding at low speed and basic skills from getting on the bike to emergency stops before passing them......this took a few hours for a few of the people but id have to say what they lernt made them alot more confident about getting on a bike and was well worth there money.
so in other words youll be fine so go do the test :shifty:
and keep off the grass

Good on yer GT244, and nice lil bike too. I used to go for a fang on my mates FXR a fair bit. Entertaining, good sound and quick enough. Another guy I ride with a lot has one and he's done good distance on it too.
Luck on learning. Just take it at your own speed, relax and have fun. Warning, you will get hooked.
