Sigh, thats right im posting this in here, want to know why? because im getting fucking pissed off and wanna fix this shit fast :P

1982 XR200R

never used to idle, fixed massive air leak between carb and port,
after a whole lot of fucking around i can get it to idle where i want
but it doesnt stay like that, it will drop back down to the idle i want if i just blip the throttle, but ifi ring it out it wont drop right down to my idle, and will stay idling really high.

dont think its my cables sticking, though it could be, but thing is once its idling high, it actually starts climbing in rev's

i dont have a clue because i got it idling where i want with mix and idle screw
and when engine isnt running cable doesnt really stick, ie it is rough but it will pull all the way back out. ( ill get round to lubing it :P )

could do with compression test too but for the love of god someone please tell me exactly why my idle wont drop back down to where i want it:\

OR

or is it that the low point i got it idling at not what it wants to idle at and i should ring it out first and then adjust it once its rung out and idling high..

anyway someone with a clue will surely be able to tell me whats up or what the problem sounds like?

If it will drop back down with a blip I'd say the slide is sticking - make sure the spring has enough pressure to push it down,it may need a stretch.Check the slide in carb bore, file down any high spots.....and double check that cable.Double check for air leaks, use some CRC to spray around carb and manifold.Next check the float level - even if it's right check by turning the gas of and letting it run out.If it dies straight away it's too low,if it starts reving high it's too high.....if it raises slightly then dies it's pretty close. That's how I set a float level with no specs.
