Just wondering if there are any 250cc riders from the East Auckland area (Pakuranga, Howick, Botany Downs, etc...) who would be interested to hook up for cruises/slight hoons every now and then around our area. I would prefer it to be 250cc riders as then we will all have roughly equivalent bikes, plus we are all likely newish/L-platers so may not be going at the most ridiculous speeds around. That is, until we get better.
But okay, if any 250'ers are interested, then reply here and maybe we can sort something out once in a while.

maha man you are officially not invited to anything we do. I don't want to ride next to someone who is wanking. Why are you always wanking? Frankly it's getting a little embarassing. Bikes generally require two hands so I just don't see you being a safe option.
It also seems you have a problem with your eyes. In biking, apparently where you look is where you go. I don't want to ride next to a wanking cartwheeler.

Sweeter than an Aprilia :)
Hmmm, never seen anything like that before... apart from the fact that it is imitating Ducati. Still for a 125 road bike, it looks sweet.
Checked the specs, and it's pretty respectable there too. The 250 fours do have a power to weight advantage, and there is nothing wrong with their handling either. Still in riding twisties, the main difference is usually the rider.
I can't go over the next couple of weeks though. Exams coming up, and I'm feeling the pressure, and I've got to sort out my brakes before I do any more aggressive riding. Gotta get it ready for the next round of VMCC streetstocks, but I have hardly any time to work on it.
Weather looks good for tomorrow, if the current weather is anything to go by. If it is clear, who would be up to do Kaiaua tomorrow?

5th June 2006, 21:14
Alright homies it's going down.
This Sunday the 11th of June at 1.30pm from BP Botany Downs I am going to do a runner out through Whitford, round Maraetai, then coming back through the Whitford Scenic route. Should take about 1.5 hours all up, and if people are keen we can ride somewhere else afterwards. If we are unimaginative we can just do the route backwards.
I would prefer it to be open to bikes 250cc and less, hence me posting it in this forum. If there is an overpowered person tagging along I may have to declare shenanigans. Depending on who/what turns up on the day there may be a medium speed group and a fast speed group. What I will say is this, if there is going to be a medium speed group then it will go at medium speed the whole time. I don't want this to be one of those rides where people say there's a medium speed group and then that group ends up having to go 130km+ for much of the ride. If there is a slower group it will go at the speed of the slowest rider. So somewhat newish people are allowed, but bare in mind the ride back through Whitford Scenic is a little hairy (if you usually prefer shaved). If done slowly it is of course no problem.
If you've got my back, reply here so I know roughly who to expect turning up. Try to turn up around 1.15pm as I would prefer to leave at 1.30pm.

Well that was a shortish ride!! Great weather and LOTS of bikes out.. I'm sure I've never seen so many on these roads on one day! Nine of us went to Maraetai, Clevedon, then Rayza took off and we were down to 8 to Kawakawa Bay. Then split into a group of 4, then 2 when I rode back with LL Cool M.
Found I'd only done 80km when I got back, and it was still early so went back out and did Monument Rd. Saw 3 police cars heading towards Clevedon going quick, one with lights on. Hope everyone got home safely!!
LL Cool M, you ride very well especially given its only been five months! We should have done Monument Road on the way back!! I'm sure you'd enjoy it and it's pretty close to home! ( and it was almost all dry! )

Thanks for pointing out the Monument Road option to me Leong, how long did that take you? I am keen to try more open rides like this as that is what increases skill the fastest. I will most likely give Monument Rd a go in the next weekend or so, and am also glad to know of the Kawakawa option too. I didn't have too much of a problem with duration as it is still good to go out for a quick burn for a few hours.
It seems the faster you can ride your Kawasaki, the more smashed up it looks. Mine is fairly immaculate.
I am sitting my restricted on Wednesday (sat the Basic Handling ages ago when I had no bike) so this was a good ride to get me into the groove of following the speed limits for that.

Hey good to see you lot! There was a bike who stacked it further up once we turned back at kawakawa don't know who it was but ambo and 3 piggies went past us. Texmos' side stand switch broke off and we think pulled partially out of the wiring loom so his bike was not rideable.. sigh. Mr policeman had a chat to us while we all stopped on the side of the road and talked crap.
Good to see you motoricer ;P cheers for the spin on your baby.

Took less than 45min with traffic. I just go to the top of the hill, then turn back. Lots of good roads out that way, and much less traffic than Whitford/Maraetai/Clevedon. You can do a small loop if you go to the end of that road, turn right n go thru the Hunua Gorge and into Papakura.
Yes, definitely increases skill fastest when you push the boundaries. My first KB ride was August 2005 when my mate and I, on VTR250s we'd had for 2-3 weeks were blown away by gixxer thous and a lady on a Hayabusa! Learnt how to use my rear brake independently that day, and overtook my first car that day too!

:blip: was good to have a blat today with you guys, good fun on the way down. Good to meet some new faces and some more kawa riders  what happened with texmos bike tristan ? howd he get home ?
His side stand switch came out, hit the road and wouldn't work regardless of setting and cutting wires/joining etc etc so we think something came out of the loom. He got picked up by his brother witha trailer, we spent 2 hours talking shit (motoracer/brett/texmo and myself) waiting lol.

Twas a good ride- hadn’t been on one for ages with kb and my riding skills where appalling to speak of - need to get out way more....
Hopefully next time we will be earlier going and get to do the full loop.
I believe it was Merwood (hopeless at names) that I had to show the way back to the motorway from celevdon when we lost the others - once again - third time now!!! Where did you guys go? What route did you take home?
I when home via the motorway to the city and had a blast around the waterfront and back via a friends place to have a chat.
Next weekend weather depending I hope we can get out again and do the full loop - sounds like a plan

Sorry 'bout that, wasn't sure whether you guys were following us or staying with Tristan n co. I just followed LL Cool M to Clevedon, thru Twilight Rd then back up Whitford Rd. Sounds like a few guys keen to do the Kaiaua Loop next weekend!!

Just went for a ride for the first time up throught Monument Rd (mental note to self, don't go fast around roads you don't know yet), as I was coming back to the small township and contemplating Kaiaua Bay, one of these types of things (though not a Caterham exactly):

turned into Monument Rd. I though to myself "Ass, I can't pass this up" so I did a u-turn back onto Monument Rd and we ended up both speeding through the hills. Unfortunately he eventually got caught behind some traffic and I had to bid him farewell, but it was a fairly joyous ride none-the-less.
On the way back a goat tried to race me, but he was not orange and I was not tricked.

Yeah, Glad you enjoyed it, cool bit of road and so close to home too!!
So you know that bit of road continues to Hunua, then you can get from there to SH2 at Mangatawhiri, then to Kaiaua which makes a good loop back to Kawakawa Bay.... right?? :blip:

Buddy L and Lim and I went also went for a cruise yesterday. We're all on 250's as well.
We swung out west as the roads seem to flow really nicely on SH16...i have to say i just can't get enough of the roads out Coatsville way...just beautiful.
The traffic interupted the ride now and again...but apart from that...a really good time was had by all.
BLOODY GOOD WEATHER....pity its about to end.
dammit gotta cycle to work tomoro
