View Full Version : Ahhhh, the withdrawal symptoms

As a few of you know, I had the CBR when I first joined KB a year and a half ago. To get back on a bike after being off and not really that enthusiastic about them after a while, I still class it as one of the best things I ever did. The feeling of freedom and independance on a bike is one of those things that should be rated one of the wonders of the world.

I never thought I would let the CBR go, but when someone approached me and offered me the right amount of cash, she went away only to be replaced by another great bike. The GSXR 400 that a few of you saw. Bloody thing ended up getting me into trouble and making me send her away too. Opened my eye to a few things and makes me glad that I sold her.

But now Im getting the dreaded bike DT's, you know the kind when you are stuck here, envying those that ride past you in the car, or buy MV Brutales  I can still take MissSnipers bike for a spin around the block once in a while, but due to the smaller sprocket on the back, its not capable of helping me enjoy my riding experience the way that I usually do.

I have joined a gym, bought an xbox, bought all 4 MotoGP games and tried to fill the void that was the joy of biking. It never worked. What would you do? Maybe one day I'll get around to having another toy, next year looks about right for the toy I have been drooling at, but right now, circumstances don't allow it.

The moral or the non-sensical rant thing. Dont sell the one thing that really lets you enjoy life.

You should be able to get between $20,000 to $50,000 for a kidney, depending on tissue type. That should fix you up nicely with a new ride...

Is that right now?

[looks in the wifes direction.....hmmmm...she looks sleepy...do you think she'd notice one less kidney]

Only one thing to do mate....get another one. Soon as possible. The night terrors are the worst and the whole withdrawal thing only gets worse with time.

Bloody hell Sniper, you must be going through purgatory mate! After a couple of weeks without riding I start climbing walls and receive the odd slap from Mrs B to shake me out of it.:nono:

Might be able to say hi in person next year. Planning a trip down to the S.I with my Blackbird-owning mates in Auckland next March.

cheers

Try not to think about blasting through some gorge listening to the sound echo back at you as you down change for that right hand sweeper...
Or having that cup of coffee at some lonely cafe somewhere on a crisp winters day as your bike ticks away next to your table...
Or that satisfying and soothing bath after a long hard ride with 7-8 like minded people, as you sit and soak the sore back and stiff shoulders away re-running the trip from start to end...
And try not to think of these things when you’re at work, as people will wonder why you look at peace with yourself and just why you are smiling...

If you can keep these and other similar thoughts from your mind you should be free in about 10 years or so…
Maybe…

You're screwed

Sorry to be so harsh, but I did much the same as you a few years back, and life just wasnt right till I got sorted with some new wheels

Still, means you'll be REALLY sure about the bike you want come the time eh?

Go buy yourself a cheap river hack to play on & keep the feel with. Then when the times right get another road bike & move the trailie on (there's always a market for them) plus with a bit of time beating around on the dirt you'll be better for it when you get back on the road

My life has been blighted with the selling off of vehicles I later regretted selling ('63 Galaxie convertible etc etc.....) but no more!!
Now if I sell one I do it because I REALLY realise it's time for it to go and mostly it is to 'upgrade'
Of course the downside it that I have 8 cars and two motorbikes sitting around and that's just after selling one!! (at last count, - could have one or two I forgot)

And not enough time/money to have them all on the road at once:blah:

i did the same late last year.....every bike i saw, every rider i saw, every bike shop i passed....i punched myself in the guts......but i was blessed soon enough with what i had been dreaming about.....so it will come if you cant live without it long enough!

Somebody get this man a bike! I didn't ride for a whole week once and as soon as Saturday rolled around I woke up at 6am, geared up and buggered off for the whole day. I now make a point of planning my work around taking my bike at least a couple of days a week.
Looking at that poor lil covered hinda sitting in the driveway was sad.

Winter is on its way mate, and you aren't too far from the mountains...take up snowboarding. Its one of the only things that gives me a buzz (apart from illegal substances) and motorbikes. Mountain biking is good too, the Port Hills were a bit of fun when I was there last year.

Cheers guys, maybe I might make MissSnipers bike into a project bike with some tweaks.... She doesnt need to know, plus the buzz is for me to do it without her finding out....

FishSlayer, Im planning on going snowboarding sometime, Im utterly useless at it, but unfortunatly I was dared to do it.... in boxers. See what happens without a bike

One of my friends lives out on a lifestyle block, and had his 21st there on Saturday.. We did a bit of golf (just smacking the ball as far as possible :D)

I did a Happy Gilmore, and got it further than anyone else :) PWNAGE!!

Oh mate that is not a good idea unless its on a lot of thick fresh powder. If you fall while moving on the harder stuff it will skin ya like concrete especially if you've got a biot of speed up.

Freeride boarding is a wicked feeling when you get the hang of it!. You can get some serious speed up and its great fun making fat old ladies wearing one pice bright orange suits bail as you fly past at fair rate of knots spraying ice n powder up all over them hehehe

Its also better to stay away from the learner areas while getting used to it, I know it doesn't sound right but trust me the surface is normally harder on the lower parts of the mountain which is where the beginner areas are. Its far far easier to learn turning skills on powder which you will find further up the mountains and away from the newbie areas. :niceone:

You'll be doin this in no time.....

Cheers mate, I might have to try that. I actually have a snowboard I have had for years. Just never used it.

Riding the mountain bike used to be a pretty good substitute for me personally. Show off around down town by pulling wheelies every where, doing runners for thrills and even going over to woodhill for some spills. Kept me fit as well.

Hey man, I tried cross country once when I was keeping my bro and his mates company. Definetly not for me.

I am usually out there doing the jumps and down hill bits. I haven't been there for more than a month though... Last time I was out that way, I came across this super hot chick. Said hi/hello... followed a pretty nice wee wheelie down the hill. Wanted to follow it up with a big air jump to really show off for her... Ended up getting too keen and landed straight on my head and took a chunk out of my knee. I've only just healed properly so I'll be going back that way soon.

If you wana hook up for a MTB ride sometime, let me know. Doesn't matter if you are that serious rider or not. I'm just out there for a bit of fun.
