I had to take the cage to work today, as I will for the next two or three weeks.
Because my wife can't drive yet after her op, so I'm Jeeves.
But how do people commute by cage day after day, week after week?
After one day in traffic I could feel my life slipping away.

I gave commuting away years ago. Moved closer to work instead.

Rather than a 10 hour day (8 working and 2 travelling), it now only takes me 5minutes to get to work.

Less tired at the end of each week, less travelling costs - I would never go back if I could help it.

Worst thing about car pooling was waking up wondering if you have been snoring, spittle hanging from the chin etc, and three chicks in the car !!

Sigh....
Typical Aucklander, assuming that your driving conditions apply everywhere else:nya: I use the car most days as I only live 10 minutes from work and I can't be arsed to kit up a lot of the time. Mind you, when I'm working in Auckland, I have exactly the same feelings as you!

I worked in the inner city 10 yrs ago - never again. My 85km semi rural commute into the city takes me an hour doing over 100kph most of the way,a relaxing drive....but I wouldn't do it on a bike.My travelling companions are B trains, the Pajero is smaller than them, but a bike is a mere irritation on the road surface.I've lived close enough to walk to work several times, definatly the way to go,and I hope my next job is just a walk away....

I've been caging the last few days for various reasons. Still got pulled out in front of by Mum and the kids this morning. Stopped in time. Do you think she could read my lips :)

I've noticed the Welly traffic from the Hutt has dropped off this year if you go after 8am. Takes me about 10min longer in the car, and parking is free at the moment till they label some of the new car parks at work, at it's cold, and it's been wet, and the car is cheaper to run.

I'm like Fishslayer.
Clock around 85km a day sitting in my cage on the Southern Carpark.
10-12 hours a week down the gurgler like a good chuck. :(

The reason? I have a company car and the gas and servicing is paid for. The bike is for fun and open roads, though the odd time I have taken it to work, it's been great. Less than half the travel time.

So, what I do when I get in the car? I stick the tranny in drive, put the brain in neutral; once on the carpark, I get in the right lane and spend the next hour or two, in zombie land, listening to the radio and moving over for the lucky buggers on their bikes. :)

Errmm, cos the right lane actually moves. The left lanes are full of trucks and people doing 5kmh or 0kmh. I like going fast, so never hold anyone up.
I get on at Drury and off at Grafton, so being in the right lane doesn't affect anyone else.

I can move right over to the right to let bikers past.

I can think of many more reasons but I think you get my drift. :)

Oh, this morning took and hour and three quarters cos of all the prangs. :(

and normally i can't be fucked taking the bike - the ride to work is with sun right in my eyes, ride home in the fog/rain/frost/dark, or if i'm lucky and get to work late, it's 0700am and the sun's in my eyes again.

Yep took me about the same, bloody incompetent muppets. I reckon people who are found in the wrong for accidents on the motorway during peak hour should be fined about $10k for inconveniencing everyone else.

And I reckon they should allocate the 3 lanes on the motorway to suit your driving ability.

Slow lane should be renamed "Muppet Lane"
Middle Lane should be renamed "I'm Possibly A Muppet Lane"
Fast Lane should be renamed "Look At Me You Muppets I'm Actually Moving Lane"

The bloody SCU should be fined for closing main arterial roads for the time they spend on their investigations. 2-3 hours to take some footage and do a few measurements???

From what I've seen, the left lane moves significantly faster than the right. It might have something to do with the amount of people using the differing lanes though.....

They have to be thorough. Otherwise someone might criticise them if they measure it wrong. After all, it might turn out to be a homicide.:whocares:

They can just put it down to the usual "speed kills". Take the photos and drag the wrecks off the motorway to get traffic flowing.
If they are actually smart, they will then put sightscreens around the vehicles to keep the bloody rubberneckers out of the equasion!

EVEN WORSE!! If I time it wrong, I'll have to split past all the police too, who are leaving the incidents... and I can't figure it out. By bike, get on at Takanini at 7am, get to work in Auckland by 7:30...
By car, get on at Takanini at 6:30am, get off at Manukau by 8 go home through the back roads, get home 8:45. Try again at 9, find out that it rained in Papatoe for 5 minuets and the result was a 15 car pile-up that take the emergency services 3 hours to get to caus of the traffic...
Get to Mt Wellington at 12pm where it merges from three lanes down to two and causes such confusion even tho it has been that way for over twenty years that it adds another hour to move 500 meters.
Finally make it to the Greenlane/Market Rd area where it slows to a crawl as someone has a flat tyre and is changing it on the breakdown lane, this is just such an interesting spectacle that everyone wants to have a good look.
Wouldn’t you? It’s so very exciting! All the air came out, and now they have to put another one on! What a thrill!
2pm I hit spaghetti junction where the entire population of the Southern Hemisphere is entering, exiting or both.
Make it off at Symonds St by 3pm, get every red light and trapped behind two busses playing leap frog so I make it to work by 3:45.
Park the car, get changed and start work by 4...
Knock off at 4:30
