View Full Version : Who touched my bike

Rode to work in the rain yesterday, got here warm and dry thanks to my gear. Parked in the bike park on Mercer St in Welington. When I went back out there after work my bike had been moved. I'm not sure if someone moved it or if it was knocked over and picked up again.

If anyone saw anything or knows anything can you please PM me.

Cheers

That sucks!! You do not touch someone elses bike!! If it was knocked over, I suppose someone was nice enough to pick it back up and not just say "oops" and leave it lying there, but still..... Was there any damage to it?

I was going to say, maybe someone tried to steal it, but then I realised that no one wants a gn250 ;)

Serriously though - It sucks there are people out there who touch / move/ drop your bike, But were there anything you were parked over - such as a manhole, fire hrydrant, any services? Someone may of needed to get to somthing under your bike. Remember they might of needed to get machinery as close the kerb as possalbe or somthing, check if theres lots of mud around, thats the easy way to tell if there has been work done.

I parked there as well yesterday and saw a couple of GN's.
Didn't see anything untoward sorry.

Mercer Street is between Willis Street and Victoria Street opposite the Library.

Mercer St is the shor street from New World Metro on Willis Street to Victoria/Wakefield Streets by the City Council Offices/Art Gallery/Library.

There are no manholes, fire hydrants or other services there and no new road works.

Mirrors, brake levers, ets were still all set up in the same places so I doubt it was knocked over.

It looked like a few bikes could have been moved to make room for a delivery van to park and unload and it is my guess that this is what happened. Still the wankers shouldn't have touched my bike.

I'd still like to know what really happened though.

Sometimes when the bike park is really congested and the ZX is right at the back, being such a wide bike, I have to move some bikes in front of me a little to get it out, but I always put them back carefully as I found them.

I thought of that. But I was already at the back so ahouldn't have been in anyones way. The bike was moved so it was parallel to the kerb so took up even more room after being moved.

If there were a few GN's parked there and some were the same colour maybe someone jumped on yours, wheeled it back and tried to start it, realised it wasn't there one, put it back and rode off on thier own bike... just a possibility...:doobey:

Yeah thought that was the street... I have heard of bike being moved for deliveries in that park. They shouldnt do it, id be pissed of if it happened to me.

Man that sux, I had my bike moved in the park at Grey St not all that long ago and it really bugged me. If I caught someone moving it without a good reason I'd..... I'd.... I'd..... Ask Helen really nicely to punch them in the face for me.

Just been down and had a chat with the shops looking out over the park. Noone saw anything so I guess this will go down as an unsolved mystery.

No obvious damage, still goes and still got gas so I suppose I can't be too pissed off. Maybe I should just go on a ride to get over it!

I have a had a couple of incidents where I have told couriers to get the f@*# out of the bike park, especially when I'm wanting to leave and they are blocking me !! Really pisses me off that does, since it's such a large bike-park they think they can share too.

Yep, sounds like a good idea! But hey look on the brightside - at least it wasnt damaged, Ive had a tool kit stolen from my old GN when it was parked in town. And never think that the wind would never blow your bike over either, its happened to a few of us...

Thats actually happened at the Mercer St carpark so I just parked my bike in fornt of their car and went to New World then came back, they were still sitting there was quite funny. And no Insane man I didnt punch them in the face, I dont do things like that! :blah:

Was the bike towards the Eastern end? If so I saw a GN250 parked really weirdly at 3.40pm yesterday whilst heading past on a bus. It looked so out of place I thought what idiot had parked it sideways AND in front of what looked like another GN. And there was no way someone would have moved it to get a van in there as too many other bikes around it. Initially thought it must have fallen over and been picked up by someone esle.

I went to leave work the other day, Vic Uni, where the the bike park is relatively empty at that time of the day. To see that some retarded fucking idiot had parked his shite little red white and blue, rusty as fuck, something so close to mine that I couldnt' even raise it enough to flick the bloody side stand up!!
:angry2:

Miles of room all around the park and it was still hot so he'd only just left it. Boy was I pissed off! So I had no qualms about 'moving it' further into the general car park area so I could get out... and if he's reading this he'd better know that if he does it again I'll move it all right - to the middle of the fucking road!!

Yeah that was mine. By the time I got there at 5pm there were no other bikes at the eastern end, just a space the perfect size for a car or van, thats why I thought it was possibly one of them.

I didn't leave it parked sideways, it was that way when I came back.

Depends what was happening. I can park in the basement car park at work but it is a pain in the ass getting the swipe card out with gloves and other gear on. Just wondering if it is safe to keep parking my bike in Mercer St or if I should put up with the stuffing around and park it at work.

If you had the oppertunity I would suggest you start parking it at work.

What I meant though is if you find out who the culprit is, what are your plans?

Jonty
24th May 2006, 13:38
I think the trouble with the GN is that it is easily moved (being light) and would not appear expensive enough to worry about damaging it to the idle bystander (no offence intended).

Still, I know if I ever caught anyone touching mine there would be blood, but the answer may be that a courier or other mcyclist with a ressonble explaination just shifted it and was too lazy to put it back. I wouldn't worry about it if there is no damage done (although you may want to put a disc lock on it or equivilent to make it more imposing).

yeh...parking at the mall here i often find myself blocked in by scooters. i try and park nose out so i can just roll straight out and away and sorta in the middle but enough room on all sides. so many times ive come back to be surrounded by the little fuckers. i try not to touch them at all, but ive come damned close to picking one or two up and shifting them.
in saying that, i have no concern with parking in a car park at the mall mainly cos the other bike park is in the underground miles away from the door.

Agree Jonty, disc lock would be a good plan. Lock it so it won't roll even a bit, put the steering lock on too, hey, lock the back wheel too! Try moving that you bastards! Many years of retained anger at seeing a stranger riding my horse once!! I hate people who think they can touch other people's things. I think I need therapy:bye:

I'm not too concerned with the culprit, I just want to know what happened.

If it fell over I'd ask some other riders about the best way to park. If it was someone playing silly buggers I'll get a lock and/or park it at work. If it was someone genuinely doing something sinister I'd report it to police.

Mainly I want to know if it fell over and if I should be getting it checked for damage.

You mean you leave your baby out in the weather when it could be inside all toastie warm and dry???

Put your swipe card on one of those recoiling card holders and keep it clipped to your keyring, that way you don't have to worry about fiddling round with your gloves - just grab it, swipe it and let go.

Also means if you have too many after work drinkees on Friday night you can leave her safe and sound in the basement and catch a taxi home....

You mean you leave your baby out in the weather when it could be inside all toastie warm and dry???Wait til he buys a big flash bike with a nice paint job, huge insurance excess and highly desirable for theft. He won't have problems retrieving a swipe card then.

Alternatively, how about I park my bike at Mikey's work and he can keep parking on the street? I wouldn't mind retrieving a swipe card to park my baby!

I went to park my bike down Dixon st in Wellington CBD on saturday, the one bike park was occupied by a fucken van.

You bastards, I couldn't do anything so I had to swing over to Victoria st. Still, stick in the eye is worse.

What total c**ts.

It would probably be best to store it in the basement parking. The wind in Wellington is unpredictable and usually strong and can easily push over smaller bikes. As for being moved, my bike has been moved heaps in the past few weeks, mainly by drunks on friday night but the ignition shows signs of tampering also! Pays to always lock the steering. Oh, and if it was dropped you would probably know it, my bike was pushed over by some culprit at the bike park next to the library and the indicator was pushed right through the fairing! Maybe I am just unlucky.

I have a mate whom patrols the street as security and he reckons hes seen drunks tear off mirrors etc around Wellington. Had one bike blown over at that bike park years ago too, or pushed over.

Disc brake locks seem like a necessary evil to me, on one hand I love mine and always attach it to my baby to keep her safe but on the other hand they make me nervous as hell because even though it's painted bright yellow and I have a reminder cable snaking up to the brake lever I'm always worried that some plonker is not going to know what it is and try to move my bike only to drop it when it stops suddenly. Has anyone had problems like this in the past?
