1. What that knocking noise from the crankcase was...
2. The cost of a full engine rebuild.

There goes $2000. Ah well.

Bugger, are they really that expensive to re-build???

Mr. Peanut

The bottom end is the expensive part, mine was an ex racing bike. The cranks should last a lot longer on the road. Top end rebuilds are cheap enough though.

Shi'ite. And how much is the bike worth?

Mr. Peanut

I pulled it apart myself to do a top end rebuild. and thought what the hey I'll check that bearing just in case thats where the noise was coming from. (mechanic didn't think anything of it as the bike ran well) and hey presto mega bearing wear. Not confident about splitting the cases (and they need a hole welded up, mmmm bondo :nono: ) and its already in bits, so I'm just going to leave it to the mechanics.

What I'm going to do is take this opportunity to put some yummy bits in the engine, a Heavy duty, high precision racing crank form DogFight R in Japan and while im at it, a steering damper (so I don't drop the thing when it gets a bit light up front :blah: ).

It's going to be insane when it's done. Ill be looking at insurance that's for sure.
