Mine was on the sweeper at the mount wellington bucket track.
I was at top speed which on that track is like 75km/h I think.
I was overtaking a slower rider who was struggling with the corner.
His bike spat the back end round and me and my bike got bitch slapped hard . I ended up doing the flying man bit and waking up a few minutes later
What did I learn ?-- be bloody careful passing an L plate racer -give em a heap of room --ohh and it aint the flying that hurts --its the sudden stop at the end that does

Prolly stacking into the side of a car that pulled across the road in front of me in Hillsborough a few years back.......What I learnt?Don't trust cages, even when they're stopped, and don't trust the coppers, who tried to do me,even though the cage driver said he had sunstrike but pulled across anyway :argh:,lawers are f****n expensive down here, and lastly,a leather jacket and jeans aren't enough to protect you when you bail over the top of a car.......
(out of interest, the cops dropped the charges the day before I was to go to court....)

Well having my first bin still fairly fresh in my mind it has made me a lot more careful about how I use my brakes - especially my back brake. I have to be careful not to over react and stomp the back brake - bad idea!!

Oh yeah - if you don't know about my bin read here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=2310&highlight=ouch

Between Palmerston North and Wellington, 3.ooam cruising at about 85km/h
(1983) on my trusty XL250 I went right up the arse of a staionary car parked in the middle of the road (checking out a rabbit he hit) BANG!!!!!!!!!
I skidded trying to get around it and the back well hit the rear corner of the morris 1100 and I high sided and ended up the road about 20 metres, completely out to it. Funny thing was my sister was in the car I hit !!!! I woke up a few hours later in Hospital luckily with relitivly repairable injuries.
bike was completely Fucked :crybaby: , all my gear was fucked, it did the job but the Ambulance cut it all of, ACC paid for all my gear though !!!
Anyway, as a concequence I prefer not to ride at night, and realise a car can stop a shitload quicker than a bike can. :stoogie:

Hahahahaha :second:

I smacked into the back of a cage going down Waikamiti (spelling) hill. The prick sped past me and then swerved back into the left lane and tryed to turn left. I didnt have a chance, breaked, bang, and Im flyin thru the air, bounced off his bonnet and down the road. Except for very sore nuts I was ok, the bike was a rightoff. I learnt never to let a cage pass me ever again. :first:

Car turned in front of me (Didn't see me at all). I hit it head on, went over handle bars, hit car then landed on road. Gear came off fine, good for more crashs than me. One leg in plaster, other leg too saw to walk on (impressive bruise) from hitting motorbike on way up maybe.

What I learned from it. Cars can't see you!!! and I have a lot more time to browse the net (6 weeks worth!).

How'd the bike come off? Repairable or do you get to go shopping?

Ride your own ride. If you have to take it up to the next level, take a step at a time and don't jump too far ahead too quickly.

Well the car was definitelly a write off and I'm pretty sure the bike will be too. Have to follow up the insurance next week. Wouldn't mind going shopping, I was trying to save up for something with a bit more grunt than my 400. :)

It took 21 years of riding but my worst was my first serious one. Went into a corner too fast, knew I wasn't going to make it so just tried to scuff off as much speed as I could before I piled into a hedge. Problem was the fence inside the hedge that did the damage. Stuffed me up pretty good but the worst thing was it rooted my bike. I go back now and look at that corner and can't believe that I screwed it up. It looks so damn easy

Lesson learnt...the older you get the less you bounce.

Travelling to Donnington to watch the brit GP on a FZR600 and started to daydream that I was a GP hero. Hit a lefthander to fast and lowsided into a car coming the other way. Lesson learned-pay attention while riding and stop being a dreamer.

Only one thats cost me time in hospital was at Meanee speedway,
Made the gate, first into the first turn. Overcooked it and started to lowside, backed off a wee bit and it dug in and spat me over the top. Landed on my head, taken to Napier hsopital with concussion. Felt like shit for a day or so but no other damage. Bike was fine, speedway bikes can take a lot of crashing.

Riding the Leader Valley road and got hit buy a L300 van,I was lead rider and while I was bouncing off the front and into the fence,he proceeded to take out two of the other three bikes following me.

End result three written off bikes R75/7,R90S,XS750 and a written off L300

One broken wrist and fractured kneecap(R90S rider)cut leg(R90S Pillon),
Serious concussion after his helmet came off after he headbutted the windscreen out and landed back on the road(XS750 rider),
I walked(well hobbled actually) away with major bruising and no real damage

In the after math I was charged with careless use causing injury as the van driver said I had crossed the centreline this took eight months to sort out and three court appearances before it was dismissed.

Swampys wrist had to be reboken after it healed wrong and Chris was off work for eight months after his head injury affected his sense of balance, but it could have been a lot worse.

Damn that seriously sucks. Why the hell did they take the word of one cager over three/four bikers. Why is it we are always presumed to be in the wrong?
Hope your mates fully healed with no lasting effects.

I think the need to remove seatbelts and airbags from cages. Maybe if there is an increased risk of THEM dying they'll be a little more careful.

My first bin of note - was at the ThunderBolts BMX track - where I went in to the first corner hot, and got pushed out wide and over the berm - fucked me off really. I learnt that I need to be on the inside. Bent the forks of my RedLine something wicked.

My second one was while sitting down on a skateboard down a really steep street - where I learnt that skateboards when sat on get speed wobbles above a certain speed and you are then likely to remove copious amounts of skin from various unprotected spots on your body.

As for the last one on the R1 - I don't remember it. I did learn however that diesel is fecken slippery and only good for commercial vehicles and hell burnouts - but not for the apexs of 35kph corners that I am going around leaving minute particles of plastic from my sliders. I also learnt that road riding will kill me - and I am more suited to track riding now.

Of the motorcyclists I was the only one asked any questions and was a bit dazed at the time,I only vaugely remember the impact, the officer attending had talked to the van driver first and got his version of events.

That would have to be a rather mild for me........ a high side coming down a steep left hander...... sure was weird seeing the bike (CX500 Euro) fyling through the air above me, both parties wernt to badly off.

However the worst that I have been involved in would be when 8 bikes (2 two up) had a little trouble with a Kiwi Experiance bus on the hasst pass.
I was the first bike through followed by a mate, we stoped at the Gates of Hasst to wait for the others after a close shave with a bus.

After a few minites we had the feeling that something wasent right so we headed back....... we came around a corner to see bikes, people and lugauge spread all over the road.
The bus a old shit heap had taken a left hander so fast that it was leant over that far there was no room on eather side of the rd. The first bike got through but the next 2 that were 2 up had no room, somehow they managed to miss the concrete bridge wall on the bend and lucky for them there was a large shingle lay by in frount of them were the bikes low sided into. the next couple of bikes stayed up right but ended up motor crossing through the bush.

2 people went of by meat wagon 1 in the cop car and the other by chopper.
The chopper pilot had to fly in under a canopy of trees (like a tunnel) and sat it down on the rd...shit that was bloody good flying.

The bus KIWI EXPERIANCE kept on driving the dick head pasangers (back packers) said that the bikes were on the wrong side of the rd but skid marks showed different.
The bus driver had NO licence (17yrs) and when this all went to court the injered never even got an apology and the bus driver was told not to do it again (curticy of his dad being a high profile lawer and us just being troulble making bikers The End.

I learnt that riding in a close formation can mean more than one bike down :spudwave:

My first bin was about 1 year ago. A young girl in her mummy's car came to a skidding halt as she smacked me from behind. There was a line of traffic ahead of me that I managed to stop for, but the girl behind me didn't:kick: . The only damage to me was a brused shin. The bike (FXR 150) had over $1500 damage (her mummy paid for) and her front bumper had a hole punched in it from my exhaust pipe. What did I learn, never come to a skidding halt to avoid a line of traffic in front of you because the person behind you will most likely not stop. Instead, go straight down the center line.

My second bin, 7:55am 19 March 2004, was a little more serious. A kiwifruit spray truck pulled out in front of me when I was doing about 100 - 90Km. My ZXR 400 was written off, I spent a week in hospital, broke 4 bones, had 2 metal plates put in my arm and had 8 weeks off work. What did I learn from this one, Enternox (gas) is a fantastic drug and made me feel drunk:wacko: , nurses give great sponge baths:doctor: , Tauranga hospital isan't that bad, but the most important lesson, all cage drivers will try to kill you when you least expect it.:2guns:

:buggerd:

Line up of traffic at the lights.
I stopped.
Lady behind me stopped.
Kid behind her didn't.
We had to lift the front of her car off my bike.
I hurt my little finger.
His insurance wrote the bike off.

I bought it back for $500 and another $1000 saw it back on the road again.

The insurance paid me enough to pick another one up from someone I know in Wellington.

End result.

2 yellow and black Gilera Nordwests in my shed.
The engine numbers are 16 apart.

That's 2 of the 8 or so bought in to the country in the early 90's.

The before and after of my old nh80

what happened?
oncoming car did a right turn into a sidestreet while I was heading the other way at 70kph. I had no time to brake and I flew over the roof of the car.
