I'm thinking of getting either a bucket racer or a mini-moto (a decent water cooled one). Anybody here ride either or both of these got any preferences?

I don't want too much money tied up in something I only get to use a couple of times a month. A bucket racer needs a trailer or a van, and will generally be more difficult to own.

A mini moto would be cheap as chips to buy and run and fit in the back of my works wagon with no hassels, and I can ride it at silverdale or MT Wellington - but I'm wondering if I will still get a decent buzz from riding a mini moto?

A deacent mini moto that will make you win is still going to be up in teh $2000 area.

anyone who spends that much on a bucket is a fool.

Go buckets i say.

( I may be biased)

I don’t want to piss on the minimoto scene as I have seen it done to buckets by bigger size racers, but the fact is that buckets are closer to full size bikes & on kart tracks do give relevant feelings like racing & a lot of guys race big & small bikes. If you want a buzz & something to transfer the learn from then I’d go buckets. Something like a FXR150 will be larger $ but would get you to the just pour gas & ride it stage. But a prebuilt bucket can be had for little money.

The question is can you get a trailer, hire, or make up a bracket for the wagon to fit it on the back? Or just turf it on its side with a wheel out as I had done a couple of times in the back of a hatchback (make sure the oil doesn’t breath on that side or it will leak & take/drain tank).

Go to some meetigs, ask around & maybe try both to decide.

OK thanks for the ideas. Might get a towbar I can remove for weekdays... Yeah the mini moto riding position doesn't look much fun, would prefer to be on a full size bike.

this may get up the nose of some people out there :nya: , but for the money a minimoto is the way to go for me anyway. bikes are cheap and only getting cheaper by the day. in chch you dont need a race license, you pay $25 for the night (round four hours). and as much racing as you can get. all on $3 worth of gas.im only new to buckets so i cant really say to much on the subject, but ive been racing the motos for afew years now and still love every minute of them.and besides you will still fu<k yourself o a moto just as good as a bucket! good luck with it (what ever you choose, you will have fun)
