5 Star cost $4.95 from the warehouse for a 500g can
CRC Clean machine cost $12.99 also from the warehouse for a 600 ml can.
I'd used the 5 star previously and thought it worked OK.
I noticed that the CRC Clean Machine said just spray on and hose off, so thought I'd give that a try.
For the test I used my Kawasaki ZXR750 that I'd just done a wet 1,400 km round trip on.
On one side I used the CRC, on the other the 5 Star. (the rear sprocket swing arm was not considered part of the test as it is in a different league of grunginess.)
I read the instructions on both carefully, 5 star recommended a bit of elbow grease, CRC said elbow grease only required on the worst grime, other wise just hose off
Results: CRC did not even begin to live up to it's blurb. There was barely any difference and a good 85% of the grime was still on the fairing for goodness sake. I even gave it a double go with no discernible difference. Definitely elbow grease was required, thus their advertising in my opinion is bullshit.
5 star performed as advertised, and on the part that I did not use elbow grease on it performed better than the CRC!!! :gob:
I'm going to use 5 star from here on in. :first:

I used a CRC degreaser the other day, (the foam up stuff), really was hopeless! Waste of money.

Used mountain bike degreaser stuff the other day (expensive) and it was brilliant on the swing arm etc. This 5star stuff is the same kinda thing? You can use it on paint ok?

yep, it's fine on paint, just be sure to rinse properly as it leaves a mat like film if you don't. They tell you on the can if that happens, just polish it...I tested and they are right. Saves time to rinse properly in the 1st place though....

Got the toxic waste that the Big4 pass off as petrol sprayed onto my windscreen the other day when I was synchronising the starter valves. My screen is now deeply etched, and I'm deeply pissed off.
Yeah, I know it's :Offtopic: and I know :whocares: , but the bit about the cleaner making the paint a bit matte reminded me of it.
Anyway, the only thing I've found so far that is truly a spray on, rinse off cleaner is Wurth Intensive Rim Cleaner. I noticed there's a Meguiars (I think) bike-specific spray-on cleaner at SupaCheep, so I might try that. One day.

Wurth Intensive Rim Cleaner.
Sounds like a post-enema cleanup tool.
But seriously folks, anything with the name 'Wurth' attached to it, in my experience, has been the absolute shiznit.

S100 is excellent and so is the unnamed, yummy smelling citrus cleaner our groomer uses.
Just don't use it on a warm engine.

'Supa Rip' is by far the best cleaner i have used - takes everything an aircraft can throw at it and melts it away. is fine on paint, polished alloy, stainless. you do need to protect unpainted alloy after using it though, as it rips any oils completely out of anything.

there is a Pacer truck that drives around - i don't think there's a shop. if you buy on-line they might even deliver it. call their 0800 472237 and ask where the truck is.

They used to use that on the rental cars at this place I worked.
I was always to scared to put it on the bike, as I thought it might eat into paint, metal finished, etc., which I think it would if you left it on there. It was extremely effective at cleaning wheels which had just done a 4000km round trip in winter though...pretty strong stuff.

O Why don't I read stuff I posted three years ago? :bash:
Another vote for CRC "clean machine" being a useless Product!
Fell for the, "CRC is a good brand" trick again.
Trying to clean off some wheels for repainting. "clean machine" is expensive $13.49 for 600ml and did not work even with scrubbing.

D'Oh!
I thought this was a new thread.
Wulp, I'll jes pretend it is.
Here ya go: Don't buy CRC products. They're all shit.
Apart from maybe their "CRC Handbook", which lists all the know chemical compounds and their properties.
