View Full Version : Am I a tosser?

Yes, the thread many of you have been dying to respond to for months...

My question arises from meeting a little wee RGV at the sames lights in basically the same circumstances for the last two days running. Now 636 v RGV in a straight line isn't even a race. And I don't think the other guy thought it was either, although with the amount of noise his thing makes I couldn't really tell if he was trying anything or not.

The problem arises from my commuting style, whereby I maximise the advantages that bikes have over cars, and when cars are not around I minimise the amount of time that it takes me to travel that particular section of road. Of course, a 636 can minimise straight-ish roads in a way that no RGV ever will.

So I meet little RGV at lights, and I take off into the distance never to see RGV again. Yes, I am bent over the tank, yes I am winding it out to prob 10-12 grand in each gear (14 redline) and yes RGV is quickly gone.

I mean, this young fella prob sees this dude on a bigger bike at the lights, lights go green and said dude buggers off down the mway never to be seen again... and then does the same thing the next day. My problem really is that I ride like this whether another bike is around or not. But does this make me a tosser for doing this while the RGV is around? Or should I calm down and set a good example by short changing at 3 grand and giving the RGV a chance, and then taking 3 minutes longer to get to work than I do every other day?

Are you? Do you think you are? If you're happy with the way you ride and you're not a danger to anyone (leading to needing outside controls to be applied) why should you conform to what you think someone else thinks of you? You only have to answer to yourself (and the law if you feel that way inclined...)

Souless? That's a new one. Been called uncaring, cold, heartless, tosser, wanker, prick, prat, arsehole, liar, cheating scumbag and even "the accused", but never souless until now. I learn something new about myself every day.

BTW to those who raised the conditions - motorway. Yes, Wellington has lights on it's motorways. Well, technically it's a state highway, but it's an open road with two lanes going either way and a big cheesecutter down the middle.

Mikey - when I find my mate doing dodgy shit I'll try and get him to strap a camera on. Then your mate and my mate can compare tapes. Perhaps we could convince them to post the vids on the internet and freely distribute them to all of their mates, who can send them on, and send them on until a man (or woman) in blue recognises something... meantime they could start writing the script for "Being Bubba's Bitch"! Although he does tell me there haven't been any kodak moments lately anyway.

I have ridden with madboy a couple of times now and I am yet to see him do anything reckless or tosser-like. Mind you, I hardly ever look in my mirrors so anything is possible.

Lately I have been thinking about my own riding style and how it's often a reflection of my mood or mental state, at that point in time. I am Bi-polar and sometimes delusional (the voices etc. etc.), so my riding style changes like the Wellington wind. If I were riding to within 20% of redline in every gear on the way to work every day I'd like to think I'd be asking myself some questions too. Maybe I would be happy to ask just myself the questions and not the entire KB universe, but... each to their own aye.

Oh, and to answer your question. Yes :nya:

Is it just me or is KB all touchy-feely this week?? Must be the cold weather.

Cartman:[walks up to the front of the class and turns around, looking at his paper] Thank you, Mrs. Garrison. [reads] My speech is entitled "Ginger Kids: Children with red hair, light skin, and freckles." [Stan and Kyle glance at each other] We've all seen them - on the playground, at the store, walking on the streets - they creep us out and make us feel sick to our stomachs. I'm talking of course about... ginger kids. [cues up his pics. A red-headed boy appears] Aww sick! Gross! Ginger kids are born with a disease which causes very light skin, red hair, and freckles. [next picture is of a girl licking her triple-scoop ice-cream cone] Aw, nasty! Yuck! [returns to his paper] This disease is called Gingervitus, and it occurs because ginger kids have no souls.
