View Full Version : Unhappy about Triumph 675

:bye: It is with a heavy heart that I must tell about a recent unhappiness.
I took a Triumph Daytona 675 for a ride at lunchtime - it was brilliant and then - it got even better.
The engine was amazing it accelerated from 80kph to 130kph in top gear up the gorge. It goes like snot off a shovel and handles way better than I could push it. Stops so hard your eyeballs flatten against the visor and smooth as a really smooth thing at 100kph. And the sound Oh the sound - it made me unhappy because I may never hear that sound again. It played a melody as I rev'd it towards the redline from the gentle hum of an Electric generator to the shriek of a thousand Banshees - a little poetic I know but it moved me from that place to just over there.
But I could only ever own it as a 5th bike though as I already own a Tourer, a commuter and a dirt bike plus I would like a trials bike too. 5th place is surely undeserved but that's me. Ther'in lies my unhappiness.
But then, if I win Lotto, it goes to the top of my list while I procrastinate about which trials bike to buy. See life does have an upside.

I had a similar feeling after test riding the Triumph Rocket. (And the new Sprint ST was pretty good fun too.) I havnt had the oppotunity to ride the 675 yet, just had a drool over one at the RAT rally. A Lotto win and I would have all three!

The accessory zorst manufacturers are gonna be hard pressed coming up with something that betters the stock item. A single hole won't cut it.

In that case, maybe the Neptune Triton would look good:

RRP is $17,990 plus on road costs.

Saw a red one in the New Plymouth Triumph shop today (already sold to some lucky Chick). Thought it would have looked even better in red compared to the grey, but not so sure now. That shop has a good selection of Triumphs in stock.

The last 2 bikes I tested. 675 quick spin is in the KR out next week. m109 test I'm half way through writing. giving eet back tomorrow is plan.
There's plenty to like about both of them.

Confused ... confused Jim because you saw that THING called a M109R? The name alone is confusing enough, before you try and figure out what happened to the bike underneath all that 2 tonne of metal. So is it 109cc, 109ci, 109hp? or are there 109 reasons to buy something else?

It's mostly plastic, suprisingly light - and it's 'got some hurry up' - whatever it is.
looks pretty good doing it too.
Joe Average thinks it's a $70k job off the discovery channel.

Right, that does it.....
I've only ever told three cunts that in total confidence.
I'm one by one gonna visit them and crap in their toilets whilst sitting backwards.

There's an owner's report in the latest BRM mag, (sorry BD!), and it sounds the bees knees! Gotta be one of the best looking "600's" for sure as well!:first:

Okay, put me down as another test ride slut, joining all the others like dogs sniffing around a bitch on heat...
but I had to find out what the fuss was about.
You've heard lots about the bike so I don't need to go on about it. I'll give you my impressions.
Firstly - the seat's tall, but the bike is so narrow you can get both feet on the ground easily - just watch it throwing your leg over - you are likely to kick the back seat in doing so.
It's light - unbelievably light. And pretty small as well. As seems to be the way with the latest middleweights, you are thrown right forward so your head feels like its in a line with the steering rake. This puts a lot of weight on your wrists, but thats pretty normal with these bikes.
Take off - I'd heard they were pretty torquey for a 600 so I thought lets see - fed it 3000 and let out the clutch - and bugger me, if it didn't take off immediately - unheard of for this class!
Pull the throttle back a bit - up to about 6000 and then I pulled it right back - and that sound! Folks if you are going to ride this bike for one reason it's to hear that induction roar. I'm going to put my neck out here and say that I have never ridden a bike that sounds as good as this one at full throttle.
What else - great brakes, good handling, a narrow midsection that even a 39-year-old 5 foot ten 100kg lazy bugger can get across and get the knee out out on. This bike is a revelation for a middleweight.
But what gets me about this bike is the useable power - its there from 4 grand to 11 - and that's what makes the difference in the real world. Sure the R6 may have it in top end performance but it's got to catch the 675 out of the corner - the triple is the best of both worlds I reckon.
Bad points on the bike I rode? A few... the throttle sucks - a quarter turn before anything happens (needs adjusting Pete), the drivetrain's very snatchy at low revs/speeds - being caught in the traffic on Customhouse Quay was a bit yuck. The steering damper is a bit strong I reckon but I wasn't pushing it too hard - it seems to get better the faster you ride but at slow speeds it almost gives the impression of mild understeer. The ergos are very sports focussed - I had sore wrists and arse after half an hour - but these are small complaints.
Do I like this bike - YES. Could I own it as a daily commute - NO. I felt about ten years too old for it riding it. And about 20kilos too heavy LOL. I still feel that maybe the 955i is more me - or the Sprint ST.
But however gets one of these is going to have a great time riding it...
Thanks heaps Pete, Hamish and WMCC. I'm looking forward to a demo 955i arriving. And I still want to take you up on the ride on the Aprilia RS250... :innocent:

Glad you enjoyed it, I nearly wet my pants when I first rode it!
I'll check the throttle cable tomorrow, but I dare say everything's just starting to settle in.
I'm with you on the damper front....almost feels like the oil's too thick at low speed. An adjustable one would be nice.
See you for your next ride. I won't be at the fracture clinic next time....I hope!
Pete
