View Full Version : FXR question..

Finding yet another reason to procrastinate studying, I started doing some fuel consumption calculations for the FXR..
Anyway, its well know that the speedo reads around 20% high (20.8% for mine) on these bikes, so does the odo reading do the same?
I lack vast amounts of mechanical knowledge on motormacycles, but if they run off the same mechanism, would this be the case? Or is it just a deliberate thing that only affects the km/h reading?

It seems on my KRR150 the speedo is 20% out, yet the Odometer reads perfect.
But i stil like the wank factor of saying my KR 150 does 200kph when is acctually only does about 160

Same with my rg150, speedo reads fast but the odo reading is spot on.

Not sure about fxr... Strange though, for some reason, my fxr seems to read speeds spot on, if not a little low... (ie, I was following my parter in my car doing 100km/hr exactly... I was reading 94, but I know from experience with gps that around 95 is what my car is actually doing when it reads 100)
Anyhow so can't give you an fxr example, but I have a 125cc scooter that reads high (about 15%) and the odometer clocks about 15% quicker than it should as well. (ie 10km trip reads 11.5km) In overall, if it does read it from the same mechanism (in most cars I know and at least my scooter) odometer is just an integration of the speedo so any errors in speedo will introduce errors in odometer too...

Best way to check your bike.
Get a car that you know has an accurate speedo/odometer, and follow it...
Otherwise, it would be a bloody good excuse to get a gps... (Some bastards stole mine just before I got the bike... bugger!)

Not a bad idea. I'll give my brother a ring in the morning and see if he wants to play follow the leader.

My speedo is really out! 60 Ks is really 100. My Odo doesn't work at all at the moment. Anyone know who might have a gauge set for sale for an MC15 Honda VT250FG VTZ or similar (they're all the same).

Ummmmm Is it in miles per hour???
60 mph = 96.56064 kph

10 minutes of intensive testing leads me to conclude that the odo is almost spot on  10.5 km reading after 10.4 km of distance (according the the precision instruments of a ford laser).
