We are planning a South Island tour, leaving Auckland and returning to Auckland. The tour in its entirety would be approx. 16 days. We are starting to work out the itenary now and start date or tour would be mid February 2007. As we are a married couple aged 43 and 37 respectively, we are looking for at least one other couple of about the same age group to join us on this ride. That couple can either be Rider/Pillion (as we are) or, both Riders. The tour we panning to do is to see what is to be seen in the South Island, enjoy the roads, but also enjoy the sights and some touristy things. This is not a tour for ppl who are only interrested in racing around the South Island, its a vacation, possibly covering about 300km per day or if we should find a place where we enjoy the sights, we might stay another day. Some days might require a 500km stint to the next place of interrest. What we trying to say is that its not only a bike ride, but a vacation using motorcycles as transport.
The ideal couple would be open minded, easy to get along with and have an willingness to have fun and enjoy good company. The estimated cost of such an adventure would be approx $2500.00. We do not want any money...you do your arrangements as you see fit. We can however possibly share accomedation, and work with each other to save money. Lets see if there are any people this site who acctually wants to enjoy motorcycling, see New Zealand as well as have good company. If there are any such ppl, please contact us so that we can get the ball rolling.

ya see, our ride shalst be on the meanest of budgets, tighter than...well...?
:nono:
we aint sure where were going, maybe down one coast, up the other, all at 90-80 kmh probably...
thing thing we are trying to get away from is plush lodgings and big touring bikes...KLR 650..1200GS/650GS, gold wing, this is the amature's ride, so mostly young people, oh, its free to come, just pay your own way there and gas etc...

We'd normally be up for that, but I think 07 will be a short local trip only. We have an O'seas trip later in the year.
If plans change we'll be in.
How open minded do you have to be?
I don't touch men.

you might want to have a browse on the 'Disorganized South Island Tour', as the person organizing it (Carver), is also going on a NXR 125, and it will generally be a 'small bike' tour..

Interesting indeed as Duc-Gurl and I have been making loose plans for around that time too and are both interested in catching up at least. Would be keen on the experiences as opposed to a race....oh so many pic's to be taken too!
The big question is...how openminded are you? And yes I'm with you on the touching men thing mate...a line I won't cross, sorry Dover :nono:
Oh yes BTW....we are of similar age too.

Early February is Vincent County BRONZ Rally at Alexandra - a must do.:first:
Early March is the March Hare - maybe, as it is up in the air as far as venue goes.:wait:

Thanks for that. Itinerary is undecided as yet. Wives are coming down but travelling by car and meeting up at key locations. I'm not entirely sure whether they don't trust us on our own or are anticipating a bit of rapid transit on the roads. We promise to stay out of your territory so you don't have to find out although a quick diversion to chez Jantar may well be in order.

Hmm, my 'territory' has been known to extend to Invercargill, Queenstown and Oamaru so you can't be planning of getting south of Timaru!!
Don't worry about me, just c'mon down.

I imagine we will:yes: hoped to say hi on the Southern Cross with Jantar but regrettably it didn't happen. Will see what we can do to address that.

Well we guess being open minded is just that...as to how open minded we really are? ....well lets just say we been in Auckland for a long while, visited a few good joints in our lives (smoked a few as well....lol) and not much scares us....EXCEPT MEN TOUCHING MEN......lol.
We would love to have you guys along.....

When you come down leave your plans really flexible like it sounds you're doing - if it looks like the weather forecast says 3-4 fine days on the West Coast when you get off the ferry then start heading that way.
I'll be quite happy to see a few of you in South Otago, if there's not too many you can even camp here a night and we can do a gentle blast around the best roads and scenery around here.
Keep on planning

Early march would be ideal, the march hare is certainly a rally to be experienced, altho as SD says not sure of the actual location at the moment. My hope is that they do go back to the older site, much prefer it over the new site. (More shelter in the northwesters and nice river running round the site, and a nicer trip to get there, as well as both waimate and kurow a stonesthrow away).
Might even trip around a bit with you when you get down here...will have to wait and see what eventuates. But WILL be doing the March hare anyway
