IS it just me or are other people having trouble connecting to sites like Stuff (http://www.stuff.co.nz) and PrimeTV (http://www.primetv.co.nz)?

LOads of sites are going really slow too, and sometimes media links time out, especially on NZ hosted sites.

My ISP is Orcon.

They are fine for me (IHUG) but I'm having trouble accessing my Orcon email though. (can't connect to orcon pop server...)

Cheers guys. I've sent a trouble ticket off. Orcon were getting hammered with a DoS attack a couple of days ago, so I wonder if it's still going on.

Yes J2 I've noticed the same problem. I'm with Paradise. I'm not too sure how all this (slow connections etc) fits into the Telecome picture, but if this is an example of market forces at work then I'm with the regulators and the interventionists.

Common factor between stuff.co.nz and primetv.co.nz (Apart from Orcon itself) is WiX (http://www.wix.net.nz/what.html"). Since everyone would be screaming if WiX died, the problem is probaly Orcon or their connection to WiX. And that probably means Citylink.

It is raining, so Citylink could be hiccuping.

For a change, you probably can't blame Telecom.

Thought that but connected to the Citylink streaming webcams (http://www.citylink.co.nz/services/webcam/) perfectly OK.

Can't connect to ANZ (http://www.anz.co.nz) either.

You're not wrong WINJA, their service has been pretty shitty to date. So much for "Best ISP" polls.

James Deuce

Could someone let me borrow another ISP's DNS servers please? Chuck some DNS entries up please folks.

Oh for the good ol' days of the telephone when the only problem was a wrong number or if you can go back far enough the waiting list to get connected. Funny that, life seems to be going round in circles.

I think that vote refers to their helpdesk staff (see below) ;)

No wonder they sound bored on the phone.

But seriously, Orcon's DNS servers are ferked.

I can't do an NSlookup, and half the freaking Internet doesn;t work (for me), so could someone from any other ISP post their DNS server's IP addresses please?

Default Server: ns2.iconz.co.nz
Address: 210.48.66.1

I was going to say 'They won't let you recurse!' but then I tested it, and 'lo', Iconz' dns server will let you recurse even if you are on paradise cable.

:slap:

Don't tell 'em.

*Yes yes, I know, zone transfers, blah blah, I know

James Deuce

I've progressively turned my router into a sieve trying to work throughthis one, and it's getting annoying. Orcon's zone/domain seems to be utterly off air. Most ISPs have recursive lookups on - business thing.

Thank you Saslex - I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

Hrmm, so they do!

Their dns server is working okay for me then.

Orcon obviously aren't forwarding DNS calls from their internal zone.

They won't answer emails. I think the helpdesk chicks must have the long weekend off.

Maybe there is a strike/earthquake in India as thats where most calls end up these days!

or they have taken a lesson from telecom and found that even with shit service you can post record profits year after year

Or for the really good ol' days when the only problem was when Mavis down at the exchange had just brewed up and was settling into a good old gossip with Edna from the general store. ("Ged off yr arse y'daft cow an plug me in, will ya!")
