Having just bought an old trials bike (again) I was wondering if there is somewhere online to find out when and where I can use in the Aucklandish area. I need to learn what the secret handshake is I guess but there must be somewhere to get started. Silver bullet doesn't seem to have anything and thats usually a good starting point.
Any info greatly appreciated.

The Twinshock and Classic trials scene in Auckland is still in turmoil after we lost our key man a couple of years ago,it needs 3 or 4 people to pick up the job he unselfishly did. There have also been several attempts to start a Trials Organisation away from MNZ,but nothing seems to come from it.We have had our last two trials canncelled because of weather, pretty unusual in trials, but extreme conditions destroyed the venues.

So you have the Classic Register who now put on only a handful of trials a year, the Northern Trials Group who ride moderns, but are happy to have Twinshocks along, but they are a loose group and put trials on when they feel like it.Hamilton Club put on regular trials still.Trouble is the guys who ride moderns either make the twinshock sections too hard or too easy - you either get embarassed riding straight through sections for all cleans,or smash body and bike trying to tackle sections beyond your ability.

There should be a trial at Mercer this month,I'll post it in the trials section when I get the details.

Hi Henk
What did you buy?

I had a old Honda TL125 yeats ago
Had a go at trials riding (but I like trail riding better)

good luck on finding a place to ride,
Motu is the man with all the knowledge around here.

Bought a 1978 TY175. Do a few enduros, a bit of trail riding, some adventure riding and help run events for the club so there's not a lot of time left over, but trials are great fun and help raise basic skill levels. Figured a twin shock would get used 3 times a year vs probably once for a modern trials bike.

The next Auckland trial practice as below:

11 June
Keith Clements Farm
Gillespie Road, Hunua
10:30 start
Entry $10 donation
Suitable for all friendly riders
Modern, twinshock, classics and Villiers.
10 proper sections
No rocks this time - thats not even a trial!

Directions:
Go to the Papakura motorway turnoff, from North or
South.
Follow the signposts to HUNUA, there is a rather
scenic waterfall a bit farther past the trial event,
approx 100m high, well worth the trip.
The road to Hunua begins on the outskirts of Papakura,
it meanders along the path of the Hunua river which is
in the Hunua Gorge. About 4km after slowly climbing up
the gorge, the road flattens out and soon after take
the second road on the right which is signposted
Gillespie Road - continue down this road till you see
the trial signs, the farm follows a Y fork to the LEFT
almost at the end of the (Sealed) road. Careful along
here as there is 2 way local traffic who are
unsuspecting of trial riders coming en masse to this
rustic part of Auckland.

I got this from Peter Boettcher this morning.I think this is a NTG (Northern Trials Group) trial,it's called a practice to get away from having a competition licence, the whole MNZ thing.Often they run under their VMX umbrella. This is a pretty rugged property - no rocks sure, but it's steep,in trees and streams....sure to be fun.

Might try and make that if my schedule doesn't miraculously fill itself up as it has a habit of doing lately

Any news as to whether the trial's on or off tomorrow? Aiming to be there & actually looking forward to it.

If it hasn't been raining solid for three days it'll be on - takes a lot to stop a trial, the whole place would have to be under water.I've had no message of cancellation.....

How many twinshocks turned up?

Henk

Quite a few. More twin shocks than moderns at a guess.
