View Full Version : Looking for a builder in West Auckland - any recommendations?

Hi all, this is a long shot... are there any builders on here that live out west and might be interested in putting up two fence lines? About 85m of fence line in total. If not, can anyone recommend someone please? I've rung around a few builders but none of them want anything to do with "just a fence" unless there's a house to build at the same time.
Thanks

Do it yourself....
Books available at your local library on "How to build fences"
Fences are easy to build....
How high a fence are you looking at 4ft (1.2) or 6ft (1.8) high?
4ft has 2 rails and a 6ft fence has 3 rails across.
2.4 distance between each post.
Run a Stringline along the fence line.
MAKE SURE you get it on the boundary line or on your side of the boundary if you are only paying for it.
Dig hole for posts 2 ft (60cm) deep, place in post, level it up... brace the said posts... pour in concrete. Leave to set for a few days...
Put up rails... then the fence pailings...
Angle in the nails into the palings to help stop them warping...
Remember to run a stringline...lol
Fly me up and I'll do it for yah

I know a dude might do it as a homer
Marcus 027 550 5548
But he works fulltime, so might take a little while
Tell Him Jonno said to give him a call, if he can't do it, he might know someone who can.
Alternatively, If you pay gas etc extra, I could come up and help you do it this weekend

Thanks for the suggestion. :p I don't doubt that I could (mostly) do it, given time, but time is one thing we don't really have. We're moving in to a new house and until the fence goes up we're having to pay to keep our dog at the kennels on week days until then. To be honest, I really would prefer to do it myself because I'd be more confident the job was done properly with decent materials... In total there's 85-90m worth of fence. That's a lot of fence! We're already ripping the old fence out ourselves over three weekends (concrete post style job). If I could take the time off work It'd be worth a go... and since it's dark by the time I get home I can't exactly do it after work. Pity... if this were spring/summer I'd have 4 hours of daylight after getting home. :(

Looks like the messages got crossed :) I just gave Marcus a call and he sounds like he's pretty flat-tack at the moment and wasn't particularly interested. Fair enough - it's only a fence after all. He said he'd ask around and give me a bell if anyone was interested.
We're actually looking to start the work in about 5-6 weeks time once we've moved in and have cleared the boundary line. I think I may have just found a chap though... older gentleman by the name of Les. Thanks for the offer though, much appreciated!

Sweet as. Hope it works out OK.
Send me a PM later on if you can't work it out, and I'll happily help you out.
Fences aren't a huge drama, it is just diggin and concrete that suck, building the fence is pretty quick, and pretty easy.
