wouldnt it be good if we had an anti lemon law in nz , like a real good one to protect consumers ,it could be like this , if a new bike is sold and it has a combined total of just 3 recalls or warranty claims within the warranty period the consumer is entitled to at the consumers choice a brand new replacement or a full refund
and if any warranty repair takes longer than 1 week to complete a full refund or replacement is necessary
we still get trampled on with consumer law in nz id lke to see improvement

Sounds good Winj but I think you find that there would be very few bikes or anything else for that matter imported into God'szone.

I'm not taking the piss Winj but the fact is that if you had a law that allowed consumers the right of refund for their personal product based on a defect on someone elses item you would find that manufactures would not ship here.
There's a lot of shoddy stuff out there no question, but consumer protection is a lot better than it used to be. The sad fact is the kiwis dont know their rights under consumer law..............in fact that would hold true with citizen rights.......... right across society's spectrum.

Some of these states (http://www.carlemon.com/lemons.html) are smaller than NZ. I bet very few pulled out of those states.
Some of them seem pretty reasonable to me. Winja's proposal of 3 repair attempts and 1 week could be pretty rough on the importers though. Give them a month and 5 repairs within the warranty period.
After that, I'd be really fucked off if I didn't get a new bike. If I had got a new one, which I probably never will.

That site says you could have rejected repairs and asked for all your cash back.
It also says you have 6 years to make a claim. Not too late is it?

Wouldn't this have the effect of making new bikes alot more expensive?

ONLY THE ONES WITH A HISTORY OF RECALLS AND FAILURES, BIKES WILL BE PD'D BETTER, SERVICES WILL BE DONE PROPERLY , WARRANTYS WILL BE DONE PROPERLY THE FIRST TIME OR IT WILL START COSTING THE DEALERSHIP/IMPORTER , IT WONT COST A BEAN FOR THOSE DEALERS/IMPORTERS DOING A GOOD JOB

Define warranty fault.
Chipped paint?
Misaligned wheels?
Carbs out of synch?
I'd rather see importers forced to have a minimum parts stock level for all the models they import.

they way the Lemon Law works in the States is 3 trips to the repair shop for the same problem ( mechanical or electrical) and its a lemon

I'd hate to see that. There's already a crap selection as far as different bikes go in NZ.
If anything I'd like to see someone (or group) step up and start bringing in some variety. Maybe piggybacking on Aussie would make it more affordable.
