It doesn't matter how much power it makes, it's how it makes it and what gains you get through tuning that's important. All Dynamometers read differently. Ours has the advantage of being direct drive from the bike therefore eliminating slippage. It also simulates road conditions by changing the load on the bike. For example, we can have a Gixxer thou, wailing in fourth gear and load the Dyno right up and stall the bike! It's an impressive tuning tool and to my knowledge, the only one in NZ although they're designed and built in Petone. They all get exported to Nascar in the states and Touring car teams around the world.
To date the machine owes us well in excess of 150 grand.

Damn, that looks pretty impressive.
So can you say how much over stock hp it has gained? What mods is he doing to it? You can't do that many for the 600's in the NZ series aye? Just pipe, remapping and a few others?

must take a while to get her onto the machine though. But no slippage is good - I think thats what caused my 28hp at the rear wheel, that KRR power spinning it up in 3rd :D

It's fitted with a 2 bros pipe today but the Yoshi full system will be here any day. You can raise the compression through the head gasket, change the cam timing and update the injection. We use the Teka tuner as it's the best for Suzukis and remaps the original controller. TRE and air filter go without saying. You'd normally expect 15hp over stock.

that's got nothing to do with the timing, that's all gearing baby.
Go 1 tooth smaller on the front sprocket and hang on! They over gear them to get through emission testing.
If you go for a filter and pipe, you'll need to get it retuned. Either power Commander or Teka. PC is a bit expensive if you ask me.

How does that work then? Does the engine burn differently when the load is changed but the fuel and air input are the same?
I suppose I just answered my own question.

Nah. It as to pass a ride by test. higher gearing means less revs at ride by speed. Simple.

We can only tune the TEKA properly. We can do the PC but the gains aren't as good. PM Jimbo750 and ask how his Teka tune went for a perfectly un biased view on the whole thing.
The beauty of this way of tuning, is you don't have the outlay for the tuner, it re-maps your existing bits. We normally need the bike for a full day of tuning.
Johanns new bike has already gained 6hp just with the tune, not including the other bits. Stay tuned and I'll let you know the final amount.

Most common mod on the Ducati and MV sports bikes is 2 extra teeth on the rear sprocket because they got geared down for that test.

Up, Matthew, up!
Good dog.
Same for most bikes, so they can pass emissions tests, and be more economical, and stuff like that there.
The FahrtSturm is also overgeared, so the common mods are down one tooth on the front, or up 2 on the back, or both.

11hp extra through TEKA and timing adjustment.
Think we're doing some R1 hunting this season :2guns:
Incidently, it now makes 12hp more than the old bike with the exhaust still to come. Weighs 2kg less and has more over rev available. It also brakes and turns quicker.
