View Full Version : Techie question - contacting a hacker securely?

Hope one of you guys can help me with this...
Basically: I need to contact someone without letting them know where I am, or them being able to find anything out about me. This is someone who is either a very good hacker, or is being helped by someone who is.
Can anyone help me to do this?*
N.B. This is not for any illegal/nefarious purpose - I'm happy to elaborate via PM if you need to know what this is about. Oh, and if you know about this type of techie stuff, that is, rather than just being a nosy c*nt!
Cheers...
* I mean tell me how to- you don't have to be involved!

contacting him by??? email?? deleting files off his computer?? a phonecall??
perhaps if you just drop off a letter in his postbox... no trace through snail mail?? That will have him foxed :D

a quick register at hotmail or gmail?
google for "open proxy" or "public proxy" and use that.
google for "open relay" and use that (if you can find one)
I wouls suggest a combination of free email account (gmail, hotmail, operamail, etc etc) and an open proxy should have you covered *mostly*

i would have thought a hotmail account used from an internet cafe would have been the most simple solution

I second marty. What ever you do with proxy, free mail etc... don't do it from your home on your own account if you think they are good.
Go to a internet cafe, from the cafe, open a new account on hotmail or whatever, (without giving any of your real details of course) then email them from there.
If you want to feel all conspicious and feel like you're in a movie, go into the cafe in a disguise... :woohoo:

Could you borrow someone else's PC and tell whoever you are contacting that's what you're doing (so there is no point in trying to hack it, assuming there's anything on there anyway)
Edit - thinking about it... contact them in a way they can't hack. I.e. a messenger, or letter or anything not involving email or a PC if that would work.

Open an account with www.fastmail.fm (free and you don't need to give real details) from an Internet kiosk. Open an a new gmail account (you need an existing email account to set up a new gmail account , hence the fastmail account) .Obviously don't give any real info when opening the accounts. Give your country as USA, city as New York . Set the gmail account up so that any incoming mail is auto forwarded to the fastmail account, and the fastmail account so any incoming email is auto forwarded to your "target" hacker.Obviously don't give any real info .When setting these up do it from an Internet kiosk (not a cafe) and log into an anonymising proxy.
Buy as anonymously as possible a prepaid cell phone of the sort that can send email. Don't supply genuine details with the purchase, obviously .
Now send your gmail account an email from the phone (it will be autoforwarded to fastmail which will auto forward it to the hacker). Go to another city (another country if possible) before sending the phone message. Do NOT leave the phone switched on when travelling to said city. Or afterward. Remove the battery and if possible the SIM card when travelling. Immediately you have sent the email, throw the phone in the ocean.
If you want to receive the hacker's reply (unwise!), change the autofowarding rules for the fastmail account to forward back to the gmail account. Do NOT set gmail up to forward to the phone (which is now at the bottom of the sea anyway). Go to another city and use an Internet kiosk (not the one you used before) to access the gmail account to read the reply
It is much wiser to not wait for a reply. At any rate, delete the fastmail and gmail services as soon as possible (don't just delete the account, delete the service itself)
This is about as secure as you can get without going to a lot of trouble. But a really good black hat could still trace it back far enough to find the city you sent the phone message from.
EDIT: when I say buy a phone anonymously, don't go and buy a nice new one at your local shops! Buy a used one , from someone in another city. Preferably from an ad in the paper or at a market etc, not through eBay if possible, eBay is remarkably traceable. Get someone else to collect the phone from the seller. Try to pick a seller who seems pretty dodgy, thus increasing the chances that the phone will be a stolen one, and thus less traceable.I assume that Ms Jazbug is too honest a person to steal a phone herself.

Often enough to know it works. But it is MUCH better just to keep well away from anyone who would need such precautionary measures.
EDIT : And if I were involved with the likes of Mr bin Laden, I would not do any of this. I would have someone else do it. And then have the someone else killed immediately my message had been delivered.

Gotta disagree there Ixion. They're exactly the sort of people we need in the struggle!

How good are they? You might want to make sure that you don't talk about this on any bulletin boards etc in case they are *really* switched on.
Oh wait...........

Heh.. good point- but I'm not directly associated with the situation myself, so he'd have to be psychic to connect the dots from an NZ bike site.
Thanks for all the advice so far: I've had some great advice/offers of help via PM, so will see what comes of them. The issue is that the person can't find out where I am, so internet cafes or connections that can be traced to my geographical location are a bad idea, potentially... anyway, thanks to the fine human beans that frequent this site, a solution (if there is one) should be found soon.
Thanks again... got to go put on my Bat Suit.

Screw all that!
Beat their door in with a sledgehammer at 3am and go to work on their ankles and elbows with a length of steel pipe!
Do the computer while you’re at it...
No more nasty e-mails and you get a night out, it’s a win win thing!
