Wellllllllllllllllll....
Twas a fine friday morning, i had taken the day off work to recover from a cold. My brother in law came around to do some work in me shed but he couldnt really be bothered.
We decided the day would be better spent out on a couple of bikes, as he had turned up on his zzr1100. But before the trip he wanted to fix the cam timing on my gb400tt. You see it has been retarted by about half a tooth for bloody ages, we decided to move it a tooth and see if it liked being advanced that half tooth insted.
Turns out it didnt, so we whipped it back into the shed and in no time had it restored to its former position.
Didnt get too far up the road when mt boot slipped off the peg during a right hander, i looked down. Oil everywhere, guess we forgot to nip up that oil feed. Back home... a good degreasing and fresh tank of oil and we were away again.
As we were talking and laughing while working, we both somehow neglected to notice that we didnt locktight the two bolts that hold the sprocket to the cam.:gob:
All back together we took off towards town to get gas and drop some bags of shit off to my little sister.
30km from home and she made a bit of top end noise, i clutched it too late and knew it had lost all compression. Cue that sinking feeling.
After what seemed like an endless trip home using the zzr to tow the gb we whipped the hat back off and the sight we saw wasnt pretty.:bye:
One of the two bolts i mentioned earlier had come loose, jammed against the edge of the camchain tunnel and snapped the sprocket into 4 pieces. It also snapped the cam chain, sending little chain fragments down every oil well and crevice within the engine.
After a full strip down... I need a cam chain, cam sprocket, cam chain tensioner, two exhaust valves and a full set of gaskets.
If anyone knows where there any gb parts for sale, please sing out.
Im going to have a cry and demolish that bottle of single malt.
Happy riding, learn from my momentary lapse of reason, i know i have
