HDTV - I can see clearly now...

After watching some HD movie trailers and teasers, I'm pretty keen on moving over to HD asap. Does anyone know the best way to go about it, and where you could find HD movies?

My pc came with PowerDVD, and I've also got quicktime, but I don't know much about where you get HD content/movies, or what hardware setup/configuration is best to play them (I definitely have the hardware requirements, so I don't need any help there thanks). Anyone know of any good DVD / HD DVD software? I'm planning on continuing my trend of installing only bought, licenced software, so I'm not too worried about paying for it.

If you're REALLY keen on HDTV NOW... move to a developed country. (ie, japan, USA, etc...), or if you're looking at less legimate options, you could always download HDTV tv programs and movies from popular ways of sharing files such as bittorrent, etc... not that I would know how of course...

As for commercial premises that hire out HDTV movies in NZ, sorry I don't know of any and I believe there isn't any, but I am open to correction in that area.

You'll find that even normal DVD's will look much clearer on your HDTV anyway...

Do you have a HD DVD drive on your computer or a HD DVD player? I thought toshiba only released the first HD DVD drive for a PC less than a month ago.

If you're really keen on HD DVD, I would suggest that you try to import them from USA as I don't think we get any here.

If you don't have a HD DVD drive or a HD DVD player, (these are different from normal DVD player or drive) you will need one to watch proper HD DVD movie.

Waiting about two years should do it - then probably buying a PS3 and a new telly.

But, yeah. I went to a trade show in the states earlier this year and they had a lot of HD stuff - very impressive kit.

buy a 720p or 1080i projector for your computer, decent stereo, then torrents baby, some special edition DVD's have HD content but not many (yet), if you like series like lost and house then you can normally get an entire HDTV season in a 5 gig torrent.

You got a dog yet? that'll sort you out, nothing like having great big fricken dog squashing your lap while trying to watch things on a great big fricken telly

Thanks for the replies, I see that time will be the easiest way to get consistant HD content.

But for the mean time I've been using my PC (laptop, Dell Inspiron 9400, T2600) to play HD content I've got from various sources, most trailer downloads. You get 720 HD and 1080 HD as FzerozeroT pointed out, but 1080 is far nicer on the eyes.

Like you guys have said, it would be nice to get up to the level of US broadcasting, watching standard cable/satellite tv in HD! I think the Letterman show is on in HD TV, I'm sure others are too.

you can either get an old xbox. mod it and use it as a media centre and download stuff with bittorrent. or

if you have a dvd burner on the laptop and a dvd player set up for the tv.

i would download the movies with bittorrent, use a program called winavi to convert the .avi movies to vob (dvd) and then burn them to dvd with nero.

it soudns like a lot of work but its easy as to do. pm me if you would like a hand :)
