I had my Daytona 955i into Motohaus to get a scottoiler fitted this week, and they hadn’t quiet finished when I got back to pick the bike up. There was my pride and joy totally naked without faring or tank. Wow it was grubby with its skirt up. I am one who usually finds therapy in cleaning a bike and was horrified by all the dust, gunk and road trash that was hiding away. This morning it was a quick strip down and full clean, and my she is feeling so much better.

Am I just psycho :blip: , or do bikes really seem to go much better when they are good and sparkly all over?

I’d also be interested in knowing what sort of debris other have found squirreled (excuse the pun  ) away in their bikes?

like you, i hate a dirty bike and yes, they do run better clean.
i found when i got the inch of crap of the exhaust, there was no "wind drag" and she went so much faster. but, with the weather, theres very few decent days to get out and clean, and then shes filthy the next day.

I too have noticed a slightly better ride when everything is cleaned. Dont know if it is real or psychological, but i can say the bike did look a shit load better when i went to the effort of removing all the shit from the belly pan.

Uh, well, they're sort of yellow coloured - but it's not lemon!

For me, I turn the hose on the brutes a couple of times a year. They're work horses, not show ponies.

the underside of the bike is a must for me...thats why its gotta be sunny for me to clean...i lie on my back under the bike and stay there for ages. the little hose for excess fuel seems to flick the drops everywhere, makes a hell of a mess!

One day when I wash mine ( bike not knockers ) I'll find out. Hell even during my enforced lay off I went out to the gargre and started it up but never stooped to cleaning. I have this sneeking suspicion that some parts are only held one by virtue of a healthy coating of gunge

:killingme :killingme mental picture :gob: a boy bike getting all excited with a hair trigger at the chic laying on her back underneath.:slap:

Nah but seriously though a good clean in the hidden bits is always a good idea  a small part of preventative maintenance, look after your machine & it'll look after you

My bike hardly ever gets cleaned. When I pulled the old brake pads out the other day I found a flat blowfly:blink:

The ZZR has two air intake snouts under the headlight. These are covered by a mesh material that must have been specifically designed to collect Wasp's, Bee's and other such like insects. I didn't check my air filter for a while there and one or two of the said bugs made it past my airbox and into the carbies. End result = Bike broke down on a group ride due to massive flooding.

Preventative maintenance and cleaning are now two concepts I am getting my head around.
