Hello all,

I'm in the process of trying to get off the NO REG part of my recent traffic infringement and was wondering if anyone had a copy of a letter that I could plagerise (sp). I'm crap at this sort of thing and would appreciate any help.
I have read the "joke" ones that have been sent but I'm really after a more serious letter.
If anyone does have a copy could they please PM me or email me at paul.weaver@baycorpadvantage.com

Thanks everyone.... :D

No offense dude, but I think you should just suck it up and pay out. You *were* unregistered, and ignorance is not a defense. Complaints about genuine examples of unfair 'road taxation' will stand out better if they're not buried amid whinging from guys who didn't bother to check the sticker on the back of the bike they just bought...

Still. Worth a try I suppose, eh?

Whewww, tough call I reckon, JR.

When you'd just picked up a new (to you) bike, it would be the last thing you'd expect to need doing and if it was about to expire, I'd *definitely* expect the dealer to tell me.

Just my $0.02

What?

How far out of date was it? Considering your rego is back-dated to expiry when you pay it, it shouldn't be too hard to argue that you haven't used the bike for a few weeks and state that when you do (did) pay up, you were paying for x weeks of non use. unless your rego is more than 12 months gone, the govt is losing nothing through late payment.

Ahhhhh Bit me.

I'm already "sucking it up" with the speeding and lane splitting so I think I'll pass on the REG issue. :shake:

As far as the Infringement Bureau is concerned they wont show much mercy to any rego fines where the licence is a month or more overdue. Write a letter though because you never know you might just get lucky.

Hi Spud,

My Rego was overdue by about two weeks so I'll give it a go.

A huuuge thatnks to MikeL who has provided me with a brilliantly written letter which I will send away and see what happens. :shifty:

Oh the irony.... a debt collector trying to get out of a debt.

Don't pay the fine. Eventually it will get sent to Baycorp. Should be possible to "loose it" at that point.

Yes I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

No it won't - it's stay in the Dept of Courts and they'll eventually come and take his bike away.

In my experience writing letters to said authoritys has been a big fat waste. they arnt interested in your argument they just say NO and dont bother giving you a reason why just NO. I hope the keyboard makes it to the end of this post. I would be sending letters to the place you bought it from unless it was a private sale. if it was then im sorry tough luck. If the rego had lapsed by less than a month then you should have been given 14 days to produce said rego. however unfortunatly this is at the discretion of the ticketing officer.

They can't say "yes" if you don't ask, either.

In MY experience, writing a letter can get you off - it's happened a couple of times for me. But then the nice cop gave me the 14 day leeway on the ticket.

Duckman - I presume you have since got the new rego & have supplied proof of that (and hopefully pointed out that you got it the next business day too) with the letter too. Good luck.

If it was only 2 weeks overdue you should definately have a crack. The official word from the bureau is no compliance after 1 month overdue. Make sure it is paid up when you right in, send a copy of the receipt and the new licence label. Good luck.

Not sure if this is relavent as I wasn't following this thread but....

I was told that anyone selling a car or bike must do so with a warrant and rego valid for three months after the date of sale. It is illegal to sell a bike or car with an expired warrant or rego or one that is about to.... could be reason enough to argue in a letter, then state that they should go after the seller if they don't let you off.

Just a thought. :calm:

Yeah its gotta have a WOF no older than 28 days(1 month?)when it's sold) but as for Registration I dunno.

Good luck Duckman. Have only just got to this thread so was going to offer to help write the letter (to help repay you for your kind copying of the GP's!) but I see MikeL has kindly done the deed. From reading his postings, I'd say you're far better off with his eloquence than mine anyway. Good luck, and do let us know how you get on. You've got nothing to lose by writing in.

"Used an unlicensed motor vehicle" - $200

I feel like such an arse for not checking this but ... ya know...

The offence is "used an unlicensed motor vehicle" because your rego doesn't actually expire. Only the "licence label" expires. If your vehicle remains unlicensed for a period of time, (I think it is one year) then the registration plates will fall out of the LTSA system and you will have to get new plates when you want to re-licence the vehicle.
