a few KBers for a great ride yesterday! Finally crawled outa bed and opened the curtains to see it was a fine morning! Said to the Missus, "Would be a good day for a bike ride." Well she just said, "Go!" Now how many times do you have to be told to go for a ride on a sunny morning! Skipped brekkies, too! Suited up, stopped and gassed up and checked the tyres as the poor old 'F' had been sadly neglected for several weeks owing to time and health problems exacerbated by falling down the stairs and busting a rib! (Don't recommend that as a way of getting time off...!)
Anyways, got onto SH16 at Kaukap and was cruising along settling in when noticed 3 bikes in the mirrors. Figured I'd let them pass and then see how quick they were travelling before deciding whether to tail along. Well, as they were cruising at a reasonable pace I slipped in behind them and followed along. Apart from brief "moment" with stock effluent on a corner and getting held up behind the offending truck, the ride into Wellsford was smooth and comfy. I was watching the others in front, observing their lines and trying to match their smoothness, practising as I was rather "rusty".
They pulled into Caltex at Wellsford, so I pulled in with them and asked if they were KBers. Well, I was priviledged to meet Mr. and Mrs. 'BusaPete' and SteveM, (?), and Campbell,(?) with their immaculate VTR Thou's. Damn those V-twins sound good with aftermarket cans! I love the sound of a four on song, too, but different! I'd been planning on returning via SH1 from there, but as Campbell pointed out the weather was going from good to better and they were doing the Waipu loop so why don't I tag along? Needless to say, he didn't have to twist my arm too far up my back...
Finally stopping at Warkworth on the way back, the fuel guage well into the red, I said I'd better get on home as I'd been out longer than I expected and the rib and left hand were a bit sore, so left them to their cuppa and gassed up at Wilmots before heading back home to Orewa.
I usually ride alone, as my riding depends on time and health issues and is usually a spur of the moment decision, so it was a different experience hooking up with other bikes. Also, my mates ride mainly cruisers, ie: Marauder, Softail, VRSC rod - only one has a Daytona 955, so the pace is usually restricted when I ride with them. It was refereshing being able to up the pace a bit - I mean a 'Busa, and two VTR's meant I was the minnow! Pete did say he was impressed that the old "F' still had some pace which made me feel good! OF course at 210 I'm almost tapped out and the 'Busa would be just getting into stride! (Not sayin' they did those speeds, just sayin'...).
Anyways, guys, (and the lovely Wendy), thanks for the ride! Hope I rode well enough not to embarrass you, even though the pace was quite comfortable and relaxed. :scooter:
