Scary thing is, if they were NZers, (who possibly actually do check their brake pads/systems occasionally, a practice I find hard to imagine being done twice weekly on the average Tuk tuk)

then it would be metal and galss and blood everywhere, of that I am convinced. NZers lack all decisiveness on the roads, which is why so often only 3 cars get through a green light. All too scared to push the go button.
