Im keen at this stage, but will confirm closer to the date.
Have you got a route planned for this ride. Or are we just going to work it out on the way down.
I know of a couple of little detours we could take around oto that wont add too much time but definitely spice things up a bit.

Went up to Te Kuiti to catch up with Swanny & his other half today. The weather was mint and there was only one small bit of roadworks that really needed to be slowed down for: part of Awakino George has a small set of lights where the road is only one lane. Sadly I got a red light both ways, although the bunched up traffic was easy to get past once we was through the roadworks. There was quite a good frost, however the roads tended to only be wet when I went through (10am-12pm). Even when I put a foot down to check the road surface it was not icey or slippery, although all the areas that are potentially hazerdous are well sign posted. After getting up there I had a great feed at the diner next to the BP petrol station and waited, and waited...
About an hour later swanny walked in, without the bike and introduced himself & partner. Had a good yack and a laugh and I was on my way back home. The roads was much drier and better to ride on. As a result the ride home did not take as long. Snapped a couple of pictures: 1. My bike with swanny's partners cage behind it. 2. Swanny, & 3. Swanny's partner, who it would appear does not like having her picture taken...:nya:
Looking forward to this Sat ride, just don't tell my boss cause I'm not feeling to well eh...:gob:

I had an awesome ride down there, left Auckland about 9:30 am and met up with everyone in Te Kuiti. Good food and a nice cruisey ride back to Auckland via SH39 and SH1 with two other riders.

Haha, sat behind you for a bit with a couple of other bikes heading back from Awakino, I was one of the "crazy frog sports bike riders" struggling to break license-loosing speeds! You look like you're enjoying being on two wheels.

Are you going for another cruiser or something sportier?
I was on a 250cc and 90% of the way (to Awakino from Te Kuiti) I was held up by bigger bikes, most if not all over 1000cc until the big long straights came!
Then it was bye-bye :bye: until the next corner.

You softcock, (do as romans do and talk as indians do when talking to an indian :P) we didn't decide until we were at Te Kawiti on the way back. What fun is biking if you know where you'll end up.

Did ya think that maybe they just tryin to tell you something JSG.Ive often heard & read comments about yr dangerous riding style so maybe they just didnt want to be riding so close to you.So maybe you should just stick to riding elephants & stop endangering the lives of fellow bikers just out for a good day & not a race.

some of what people say about him is true, but some as said just out of spite. Never the less, I would ride with him with good spacing between us. We were not trying to shake him off. In hine sight it was probly better for him anyway, as I don't think he had the right gear for the frezzing conditions we encountered on the way back.

Cant say I rode with him either, however if I had issues with another rider Id go and have a chat with whoever it was.
NO NO NO!!! :brick:
Don't start the whole "JSG" thing again!!! Use the 'search' engine, pleeeeease!!
What a day! First proper ride (due to bike being in bits) since the Kawhia ride back in Feb., what a stunning day & turn-out!
Us BOP lot had a few ice-rinks to negotiate on our way to TK (most of it on long, shaded downhill sections...nasty!) but got there sweet as. The clean dry parts of those roads made up for it!
TK to Awakino wasn't terribly special until we got past a couple of tankers. Good fun after that!
The ride back was sweet; turned off at 8 Mile Junction (heading to Taumarunui),then r4q2 took a left off that over some nasty goat track bit of road (nice one r4q2 :bash:) he recommended...
Pretty knackered Sat night, not at all "bike fit"... the snots don't help either..
From what i saw everyone rode (relatively) sensibly, which is always my main worry... Well done
Got some carbon copies of photos the others put up, as well as these:

Goat track? I thought that was one fine piece of road. Notice there was no traffic?
