Spyball Bike Alarm

Anyone out there know where I might be able to be able to find a supplier for "Spyball" Bike alarms here in UnZud? My bike was imported from Japan with only one remote. Scary. I have visions of it being left in the middle of a pile of empty cans at the Cold Kiwi. No remote, no starty bikey.

Try carremotes.co.nz for "generic" remotes. Got one for the car when Fusion decided they would no longer support their 4 year old products.

Ta for that. Generic remotes don't work. I have trawled the interweb and finally sussed out that it is a Spyball alarm/immobiliser, and can probably get one from the UK but they are worried about the export tax that I would have to pay. They are trying to track down someone local but I thought I'd give this forum a go as well. My final option might be to get a London mate pick it up for me and post it over as a gift. That should doge the tax issue?

Do you mean import tax?

If it is for personal use, you'd only have to pay import tax (tax you pay to NZ scums) only if it is over $400 of value (or some such fairly decent figure). As for "export tax" in UK, haven't heard of such. Just got my Loobman unit shipped from a supplier in UK and didn't get any tax on it (it was properly declaired at 20 pounds) also bought something else from a supplier in UK last year to a 60 pound value (NZ180 at the time) and didn't pay any tax on it...

They program them to match the alarm - be worth asking anyway.
Getting one from the UK - if it is being exported, you shouldnt' have to pay VAT (17.5% GST over there), but a lot of palces charge it anyway. If it is under $NZ400 including postage, there won't be any GST at this end.

That's been really really helpful geoffm and bobsmith. I don't see any reason why they can't just let me pay for the remote via credit card and post the thing. Especially in this age of the interweb. I did try a couple of programable remotes down here in Welly with no success. I'll persevere with trying to get a genuine remote. :drinkup:

Actually Spyball are very reliable, they are used a majority of the time in UK and across Europe and only loose out to Datatool..have never known a problem with Sybal tbh.

Reliability smeliability. I'll go for beauty and branding over function every time. Sometimes I'm lucky and get all three. :laugh:
