Hey all,
Just thought I would take the time to introduce myself, as yet another newbie. I'm from Wellington, and am just working on getting my basic handling skills certificate, and in turn learners license.
At the moment, I've been talking to the guys in at Wellington Cycles. At the moment, I'm looking at a suzuki GN250 as my first bike, they look like a reliable bike, and a reasonably sound first bike.
Anyway, I look forward to being good an active here, and welcome any comments people may have on my starting out :-)

Welcome. And yes, the GN250 is an excellent machine for a learner. Cheap, reliable, vice free and if you do drop it, not much to break.
The boi-racers do not like them , because they are not fast enough to lose your licence on. No bad thing for the first year.

Hey man, welcome.
Comments on starting out: Ummm, interesting time of year to learn to ride :) Take it *really* gentle and build your confidence. There are organised newbie rides but, for some reason, they've only really been running in the summer.
Oh, and think hard about buying Skelstar's Hyobag instead of yet another GN (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/trader.php?do=showad&postid=590586). Much better bike than a GN and it'll devalue less now he's done the meat of the devaluing for you :)

Welcome WasPhantom, the GN 250 is a good choice, they have a real good resale value. I started on one, but went a got me a 600 sports bike about a year later and started riding that, kept the GN till i got my full then sold it.
