Lubing cables

hey guys. my bikes throttle its a little bit sticky at the first crack.

i was wondering if there are maintenance issues i need to be taking care off like oiling/greasing the cables that run from the handle bars down to the carbs?

figure its probably as a result of too much riding/sitting outside in the rain.

keeping them lubed reduces the chances of failure out the back of no where, and is fairly simple I would say

Check if they are nylon or teflon lined in which case they won't need much lube. However the ends and pivots always need a good lube.

If you need to lube them you can buy a cheap as chips little doofrey that clamps over the end and alows you to squirt an aerosol can lube into them. DON'T use CRC or WD40. Get something like that Innox spray from supercheap which does not dry out in air.

Check for damage and a nice run as well. Replace if kinked. (opposite to what you do to your girlfriend)

Enquire about getting them (or do it yourself) washed out and lube oil replaced with silicon based lubricant, it gives longer and better service, especially in the wet and cold. (IMHO)

Just as an extra precaution, open up the starter/kill switch box (can never remember its goddamn technical name) and check the condition of the throttle on cable.

Was checking mine while fixing problems, the cable had almost completely frayed through. I suspect part of the problem was a slightly out of line path for the cable, wearing the cable faster than it probably should.
