My Girl Friend went overseas to have an operation done because she does not trust the New Zealand medical standards.

When my Grand Mother was put into Hospital she caught a whole raft of things. She was kicked out of Hospital then got worse because of what she had previously caught. Then went back into ICU and almost died a few times. After a short while she was kicked out of ICU and sent home where they provided a bed and a nurse came once a day.

Again, after a short while the nurses stopped coming, then they tried to take the bed. Then my Grand Mother died.

Fire all immigration officers and let no bastards in.
DONT FUCKING VOTE LABOUR EVER AGAIN.
Remove the benefits system for fat arsed idle islanders and whites - which will force them back into the work place.

Nothing wrong with the standards of care professionally - same as OZ - they have a combined college of surgeons - the govt just doesn't give enough $ to fund the health service and the bean counters have now 'audited' pain. That is why co-pilot left and won't go back to public health. She wouldn't apply the money based triage.

Remember when the Matron ran the hospital - now it's a business manager - with possibly no clinical acumen at all.

Private insurance is mandadtory for over 26ers now. Thaz the fax jack because for once I agree with the doomsayers - it's a right royal fuck up Arthur.

And that's not even starting on the asshole orthapedic surgeons with the god complex.

I meant the standard of their training and quality of surgical proceedures is as good as anywhere - if you can deal with the (occasional) asshole offering it and can get to see them in the first place.

Apart from that it's just down to lack of funding. and your point on where they spend it. 'taxpayers' would make me happier too - but then you start putting a $ on humanitarian values - which is part of the argument to begin with.

My 2 cents

1 ACC = doctors no longer can be sued for personal injury in NZ = major stuff ups being covered up and poorly compensated for by ACC. If doctors and hospitals could be sued for millions they would take more care.

2 If money spent on health insurance could be claimed back in taxes then more individuals / businesses would purchase it, and leave the public system to take care of those that cannot afford it. And we would have a larger private system offering more services.

Our politicians need to take a long hard look at why we have a 3rd World Health system and what we are doing differently than other countries to lead to this situation. And the cost of not treating people in ACC payments, Sickness Benefits and lost productivity as well as the human cost.
