Bike Thieves

A word of warning if you ride a trail bike don't leave them out alone, even locking them up doesn't help as the bastards just put them into a van. I have had 3 DR250s stolen one after another as i replaced each one, the last was taken from a WGTN city street while i was at work.
I've had bikes since 1975 and now wont touch a trail type bike as there seems to be an easy market for stolen ones, hence my move to cruisers, {a bad back means a sport bike is out too, also there's something wrong with hurtling down the road at 120km head down arse up, sorry its just wrong :gob: } Thats what i tell my friend with a :tugger: Honda 1000 anyway.
So watch out for your bike and don't buy hot ones and if you bought one of my stolen ones i hope your balls drop off.

I always thought the most commonly stolen bikes were those that the hard core rode - in the '70's and '80's it was British bikes,from then on Harley's.Anything else is just impulse theft.

Damn three bikes in a row, that really sucks.

It's a pity, a friend of mine had a 180cc 2 stroke dirt bike registered on road and she was slowly getting really into motorcycling... then it got stolen and she's been put off motorcycling ever since.... sucks since I was looking forward to having friends to go riding around with....

Actually the day my bike was stolen from the city street another DR was taken from a strreet near by, they must have scopped out the bike parks and targeted them. The 1st one to go really hurt as i paid for it $3000 on my credit card and it was gone before the card bill came in, so I had to pay the card off with no bike and it was only insured 3rd party, ouch. So I a have been sure to insure fully and today bought an alarmed disc lock {to replace the grip lock I was foolish enough to buy} as the paranoier(sp) is setting in.

I can only imagine they would be sold to people in rural areas to ride in the back lots etc, as how can they WOF etc for them unless or they get stripped for parts. Thats why i think so many off road bikes get nicked, easier to find a buyer in the boondocks.

TSS have been hit a couple of times in the last year. Mainly off roaders (KTM) and those wee bikes for kiddies as I understand it.

Is there a ring operating out of Wellers?

Yep, probably sitting on a farm in the far north by now. Dont buy hot stuff, as had it done to us in the past and it FREAKING SUCKS.
My only consulation, and it is a small one, it that what goes around comes around bro

Know how you feel. I had a XL250 nicked once. Police caught a group of youths with my engine in another bike and told me they stole plenty of dirt bikes for go-carts and to mix.n.match bike parts.

I spoke to a cop recently and he told of a guy they busted, Porrirua I think, that had a garage full of stolen bikes,I think he must have switched parts around on them or something to make them easier to sell. No doubt got 2 weeks PD and some serious counselling to help mend his ways. Prick.

Sheeet - I ride a DR250 too. Only hope is to watch out for each other. I promise to confront and quiz anyone I see loading a bike onto a truck in the city, especially if it has a lock still on it. Follow it even. Hope you will do the same. Write down the number plate of the truck too. Somebody must see them at work. Wouldn't surprise me if the buggers are reading this ...

I don't know whether to be paranoid or upset! I have a DR250 that is parked in the city most weekdays for the past year with no problems. On occasion (when the battery has gone flat or the gear lever fell off) I have even left it parked in town overnight and it still hasn't been touched. Wonder what's wrong with my bike!

That really sucks. I didn't realise there was such a market/demand for dirt bikes (stolen to order perhaps).

A few months back I went to a party (theres a post on here somewhere about it) and some P dealer showed up, and when he heard I had a bike said if I tell him about any parts I need to let him now and he will get them for me cheap as (hot as too).

Tried to track the guy down (phone number or name) to pass onto a concerned KB member to get him checked out further... unfortunaltley couldn't get those details... but he lives in Auck's so I don't know if he'd be connected to knicking dirt bikes...

As for that guy (as mentioned above) only getting 2 weeks PD for bike theft... and thats why they do it... no consequences if they are caught... so why not?

Why park in un secure locations? Why not chain it to a fence where everyone can see it? alarms? 3 in a row sucks, but didnt you learn how not to get your bike stolen?

My drz250 was nicked from right outside our bedroom - think it was loaded onto a truck or something with a taillift. Thankfully they left the dr650. Now bikes chained up when at home. It's not just wellington that has scum, plenty of it up here - maybe we should ship them to Timaru to help put the power back on down there - at least if they do something like shovelling snow it'll keep them out of mischief. Also, if it's cold enough their balls will fall off (or tits for the females amongst them).

I'd lock up your bike well RnB as that is just the type I lost 3 times. A disc lock on the back might be a deterent but they can still just pick up smaller bikes and throw them in a van quick as. And don't expect the cops or bike shops to be much use if stolen, just be well insured. The good thing though from it all is I'd never go back from my big cruiser now as I love being out on the road and away, can't do that on a 250.

Well Renegade I would have thought on a bike park with 10 other bikes during working hours on a busy Wgtn city street would be a reasonably secure location.
