Hi I'm about to re-enter the wonderful world of trials riding. I last stumpjumped 20 years ago but have kept my hand in on bikes since then.
I am looking for others interested and involved in trials up here as I no longer feel the need for sloitary motorcycling. Much prefer to watch and learn and chat with a cold beer afterwards.
Suggestions?

There is a Classic/Twinshock Trial at Mercer MX track this sunday - sign on say 10.00am,start 11.00am.I came back to trials after 17 years 5 years ago,it's been great to get back to it,although I have hardly ridden this year.

Are you going to do twinshock or get a modern? A modern at a comeback level would ride Twinshock experts lines, not that difficult with a fancy bike.We don't do the big rocks and logs anymore - bikes and riders are somewhat older now of course,no point in creating difficulties. So it's more focused on machine control, lots of turns, climbing banks and stuff. All fun stuff - like ride down into a rocky stream, ride along and climb back out...not hard, but pretty easy to get a five if you stuff it up.

I have a TLR200,it's a nice little bike with reasonable handling - but coming to grips with a 4 stroke trials bike has kept me entertained.I'm not riding on sunday as I have the flu, like really bad - but I think I'll go along for a look. It's the Allan Ready Memorial Trial - if you were riding in the Auckland region 20 years ago you should remember Allan....this trial is for him.

Hi Motu,
Yes thanks for your reply. I am going the modern way as tinkering for long periods of time doesnt spin my wheels, prefer to ride. Am buying a 2003/4 Scorpa SY 250 as I simply fell in love with the damn thing. My brother rides a Sherco 290 but he and his mates are all in Christchurch, as was I many years back. So I need people to ride with here. I am interested in popping out to Mercer tomorrow but have no idea where abouts, could you give me directions perhaps? It would be interesting to find likeminded souls. We seem to be a rare and endangered breed, so any help appreciated. Cheers .

Went out to mercer today and met quite a few of the chaps involved with the Allan Ready Memorial Trial. Met Leon ?, Neil McCabe, James ?and Peter Boettcher. All very pleasant chaps and generous in offering rides on the respective mounts. Still keen on my Sherco's and Scorpa's though as the twinshockers look like much maintenance.
Thanks for the pointer.
Cheers

I didn't turn up....I dropped in on saturday to see some of the guys laying out sections, but then a cold wind came up and I got back to the safety of my van.I had all my family around today so enjoyed some time together.Anyway, there was a dog sleeping in the back of my van and I decided he could stay there.....

Owning a twinshock is half the bike, half the ride, and I like it like that.I rebuilt the bike and spent ages sorting out suspension and gearing,I'm still working on it.Some riders will have a modern and a classic or twinshock, gives them more rides in a season.Still, classic or modern, trials is a pretty relaxed atmoshere - it's sad going to a ''race'' meeting of any sort and seeing how serious and unfriendly everyone is.They should all have to go to a trial and see it doen't have to be like that.Hope to see you out there soon.
